The rebuilt Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco has been officially inaugurated by Crown Prince Moulay Hassan.
Morocco World News said reconstruction began in 2023 and was completed in under two years. The project was led by Moroccan firm Orange Atelier in partnership with Populous.
The stadium forms part of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Complex and has a capacity of 68,500 making it the second largest in Morocco.
The inauguration was attended by the workforce involved in the stadium’s reconstruction. It officially opened to the public with Morocco’s national team playing Niger in a 2026 World Cup qualifier.
The stadium complex also houses an Olympic swimming pool, football training pitches, and an indoor multisport arena. The stadium is expected to host key matches during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Africa Cup of Nations referred to as AFCON, and sometimes as African Cup of Nations, is the main international men’s association football competition in Africa. It is sanctioned by the CAF and was first held in 1957.
The 2025 tournament in Morocco was supposed to take place in mid-year but has been moved to the end of the year because of FIFA’s new expanded Club World Cup with 32 teams in the United States which took place in June and July.
