The rebuilt Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco has been officially inaugurated by Crown Prince Moulay Hassan.

Morocco World News said reconstruction began in 2023 and was completed in under two years. The project was led by Moroccan firm Orange Atelier in partnership with Populous.

The stadium forms part of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Complex and has a capacity of 68,500 making it the second largest in Morocco.

The inauguration was attended by the workforce involved in the stadium’s reconstruction. It officially opened to the public with Morocco’s national team playing Niger in a 2026 World Cup qualifier.

The stadium complex also houses an Olympic swimming pool, football training pitches, and an indoor multisport arena. The stadium is expected to host key matches during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Africa Cup of Nations referred to as AFCON, and sometimes as African Cup of Nations, is the main international men’s association football competition in Africa. It is sanctioned by the CAF and was first held in 1957.

The 2025 tournament in Morocco was supposed to take place in mid-year but has been moved to the end of the year because of FIFA’s new expanded Club World Cup with 32 teams in the United States which took place in June and July.

The Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, located in Rabat, Morocco, is a state-of-the-art sports facility designed to host major international events.

The original stadium, built in 1983, was demolished in 2023 to make way for a modern replacement.

The new stadium was completed in under two years, setting a Guinness World Record for the fastest stadium construction, Morocco World News stated.

Key Features include:

  • Seating Capacity: The stadium accommodates 68,700 spectators, making it one of the largest in Morocco.
  • Design and Architecture: The façade is inspired by palm leaves, blending traditional Moroccan aesthetics with modern design elements.
  • Facilities: The complex includes an Olympic swimming pool, football training pitches, an indoor multisport arena, and a multi-level underground parking facility for 5,200 vehicles.
  • Technological Innovations: The stadium features high-definition LED screens, advanced acoustic systems, smart crowd management technologies, and a FIFA-standard pitch with advanced drainage and grass technologies.
  • Sustainability: The facility incorporates solar energy systems and water recycling technologies to promote environmental sustainability.
