A timeline has been mapped out for the development of a new stadium for AC Milan and Inter Milan now they are the owners of the San Siro stadium.

Sempremilan said there has been a lot of talk in the past few weeks about what will happen with the San Siro and when but that things will only happen gradually.

The nearly century-old San Siro is set to be knocked down in favor of a more modern stadium.

Milan’s new soccer stadium, which will replace the old San Siro, is planned to be a 71,500-seat venue. It is scheduled to be completed by the start of the 2030-2031 Serie A season with construction beginning in 2027. The project is being led by both AC Milan and Inter Milan.

Earlier this year, the clubs picked architectural firms Foster + Partners and MANICA to design their new stadium in Milan, Italy.

The San Siro Stadium (also known as the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza) is a football stadium in the San Siro district of Milan, Italy. It has a seating capacity of 80,018 making it the largest stadium in Italy and one of the largest stadiums in Europe. It is the home stadium of the Serie A teams AC Milan and Inter Milan.

Calcio e Finanza has now provided a detailed breakdown of the plans from the next few weeks to the next few years. The end date of the project is actually closer to 2036, rather than 2032. The timeline is as follows:

Phase 1 of development: Construction of the new stadium and demolition of the Meazza

Phase 2 of development: Multipurpose area and Meazza redevelopment

Italy is under growing pressure to upgrade the quality of its soccer arenas driven by foreign investors backing Serie A clubs and the need for more functional venues for the 2032 European Championship which Italy will co-host with Turkey.

The new stadium should also help the Milanese clubs substantially increase their matchday revenue which currently lags behind their European rivals.
