It seems the wait is finally over for the Dutch football club SC Cambuur. From the beginning of next month, the Dutch construction company Van Wijnen will start work on the new home of the top-flight. The new facility will come up on the West side of Leeuwarden in the Netherlands.
The new Cambuur Stadium will be built opposite the WTC and the Elfstedenhal in Leeuwarden. The building will house a stadium for SC Cambuur, a school for the education management company ROC Friese Poort as well as commercial spaces.
The ‘SC Cambuur’ quoted Ard de Graaf, General Manager of SC Cambuur, as stating, “It is great news that construction can now finally start after a long and intensive process. For us as a club, construction work starting on the new venue means a historic moment and the start of a new era. The new venue will act as a springboard for the club to further demonstrate its pitch prowess. Our fans too deserve a plush stadium.”
SC Cambuur-Leeuwarden, also known as SC Cambuur, or simply Cambuur, is a Dutch football club from the City of Leeuwarden (Netherlands) formed on June 19th, 1964. They currently play in Eredivisie, the top tier of Dutch football, after winning the 2020-2021 Eerste Divisie title.
The Cambuur Stadion is a football stadium in the East side of the City of Leeuwarden, Netherlands. It is used for the home matches of SC Cambuur. The stadium is able to hold 10,500 people and it opened on September 12th, 1936.

The ‘SC Cambuur’ further stated that in June 2021, Van Wijnen took over the development work of the new Cambuur Stadium from project developer Wyckerveste.

Enthused Hein de Haan, Alderman for Area Development of the Municipality of Leeuwarden, “I am pleased that after quite an exhaustive process we are finally starting work on the new stadium. The arena project will bring economic boost and generate employment opportunities apart from providing a new home to Cambuur. With this integrated area development, the development of New Old East on the site of the current football stadium can also continue.”
