Spanish LaLiga club Valencia CF has signed Telefónica as a founding partner of its Nou Mestalla stadium.
Valencia CF said the world-leading telecoms company will play a key role in ensuring that the stadium’s entire technology and connectivity network operates with maximum efficiency and security
Through the long-term agreement ,Telefónica, which was founded in 1924, will become the technological integrator of the future home of Valencianismo.
Valencia CF, or simply Valencia, is a Spanish professional football club based in Valencia, Spain, which currently plays in LaLiga, the top tier of the Spanish football league system. Valencia was founded in 1919 and has played its home games at the 49,430-seater Mestalla Stadium since its opening in 1923.
Valencia CF’s new home will be the Nou Mestalla, a stadium currently under construction and expected to open in 2027. The new stadium will have a capacity of over 70,000 seats, a retractable roof and advanced technological features.
Construction on the project was halted for years due to financial reasons but resumed in January 2025 with an estimated completion date of summer 2027.
Valencia said the alliance with Telefónica positions the company from the start of the project as a strategic partner responsible for the design and development of the technological infrastructure, as well as for managing the venue’s connectivity.
This will involve the implementation of the LAN (Local Area Network), which will provide the Nou Mestalla with an internal communications structure capable of supporting the venue’s daily operations and the management of its critical systems.
Telefónica will also be responsible for deploying a high-capacity WiFi network designed to offer efficient coverage to tens of thousands of users simultaneously, ensuring a seamless digital experience in common areas, stands, hospitality spaces, and operational zones.
The company will also implement the stadium’s cybersecurity system through advanced monitoring tools, data-protection measures and threat-response mechanisms to safeguard the integrity of the digital services that will form part of the new stadium.
Javier Solís, General Director of Valencia CF, said, “This agreement represents a key milestone for the Nou Mestalla, which adds a new partner of recognised prestige.
“Telefónica is a world-leading company with great vision for the future. Having their support will allow us to offer the highest standards of technology to all Valencianistas.”
The agreement forms part of a broader collaboration framework capable of addressing future needs, optimising management, driving new services and digital assets, and generating opportunities for developing technology-based business models.
Telefónica will contribute its expertise and innovative capacity to equip the Nou Mestalla with technological resources aligned with Valencia CF’s forward-looking vision, enabling the club’s growth and competitiveness in the sports and entertainment sector, the club said.
Eduardo Ariste, General Director of Enterprises at Telefónica Spain, added, “For Telefónica, it is an honour to accompany Valencia CF in such an emblematic project for the city.
“We are placing our technological capabilities at the service of the Nou Mestalla so that fans enjoy a distinctive experience in an intelligent, hyper-connected stadium.
“This agreement also strengthens our commitment to Valencia and will allow the Nou Mestalla to be born as one of the most technologically advanced stadiums in the country, a benchmark in digital innovation and the application of cutting-edge solutions.”
