‘The Foxes’ home plans vision for Leicester

King Power Stadium planning application

Leicester City

The Premier League team Leicester City F.C. (UK) has submitted its hybrid planning application to the Leicester City Council for the proposed development of the King Power Stadium site.

The ‘Leicester City FC’ stated that the submission follows an extensive pre-application public consultation, which ran between August and September this year. During this period, the club received thousands of pieces of written and in-person feedback from stakeholders throughout its communities, including local authorities, businesses, community groups, neighbors, fans, and other interested parties.

The Leicester City Football Club is a professional football club based in Leicester in the East Midlands, England (UK). The club competes in the Premier League, the top division of England’s football league system, and plays its home matches at the King Power Stadium.

The King Power Stadium is a football stadium in Leicester, England (UK). It has been the home stadium of the Premier League side Leicester City since 2002, and was the stage as the club were crowned Premier League champions in 2016. The all-seater stadium has a capacity of 32,261, and is the 20th largest football ground in England.

The ‘Leicester City FC’ further stated that the response during the consultation period was overwhelmingly positive and the club would like to express its sincere thanks to all participants for the level of engagement and constructive, valuable feedback that has contributed to the hybrid submission.

The application will now be validated by the Leicester City Council before being determined by the planning committee in the first few months of next year. Ahead of that decision, the club hopes to be given permission to start some early enabling works on site, which it applied for last month.

Vision for Leicester

Leicester City’s vision for King Power Stadium is a vision for Leicester. A regenerative investment revitalized in the region’s economy, it is a project to preserve the legacy of one of the most defining periods in Leicester’s recent history. Placing a world-class 40,000-seat stadium at the heart of the vibrant, diverse event destination and the City’s economy would get transformed.

During the construction period alone, the development would create over thousand jobs a year with another thousand permanent jobs to be created across facilities. Additional matchgoing visitors will increase annual spending in the City by up to 10-and-a-half million pounds a year just on matchday. The development will come as an asset to the community.

Once the development is complete, it will attract a new profile of visitors, a new standard of events, something which the City has not seen before. The development will see each stands expansion of 8,000 seats. Spectacular, illuminative rooftop that will create an iconic Leicester landmark will be instantly recognizable throughout the City and around the world.

Broader plans include a 220-room hotel, residential town, fan plaza, a retail store plus a multipurpose arena that will bring in new dimension to the City’s corporate economy. Drawing on King Power’s expertise in the development of world class venues and facilities, both here in the United Kingdom and around the world, the site will deliver a visitor journey like no other.

A multipurpose facility with integrative assets and shared technologies, the project will make Leicester a pathfinder for major event innovations and to the evolving demands of a changing world. To some of the most important moments in the City’s history, the King Power Stadium has been showcasing some of the very best of the City and amplifying its voice around the world.

Its development is the most visible statement that Leicester can make of the confident, aspirational City that is open to business.

For its people, it is a generational opportunity to turn Leicester’s new-found prominence into a long-term growth.
