Thousands gathered to enjoy the Aloha Stadium (Hālawa, Hawaii, US) one last time before it’s demolished.

‘HAWAII NEWS NOW’ stated that the farewell ‘Aloha to Aloha Stadium’ concert wrapped up in the lower Hālawa parking lot recently.

The 50,000-capacity Aloha Stadium is a former multipurpose stadium in Hālawa, Hawaii, a Census-designated place that is a Western suburb of Honolulu. It is the largest stadium in the State of Hawaii. As of December 2020, the stadium ceased fan-attended operations indefinitely and placed a moratorium on the scheduling of new events.

‘HAWAII NEWS NOW’ further stated that the stadium has been around for nearly five decades and has stood as the State’s largest outdoor area hosting events from the University of Hawaii football Games to the NFL Pro Bowl and concerts by Michael Jackson (American singer-songwriter and dancer), Bruno Mars (American singer-songwriter and record producer) and more.

Stated one attendee, “I have so many memories here. We used to have, always, seasonal tickets. We had our own row, two rows in the front of the South end zone always and just everything, you know, with all the concerts here, all the iconic concerts.”

The stadium was also home to many community traditions such as the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet and Marketplace, the holiday light shows and fairs.

Said another attendee, “The Aloha Stadium gave all that (it) could and we appreciate all that it would bring and I love that all that it would do. So, I kind of wait for the next what the next stadium is going to bring for us.”

The new Aloha Stadium is slated to open in 2029 and will feature 22,500 seats with the ability to expand if additional funds are secured.

The new stadium will be designed with the flexibility to host football, soccer and rugby games as well as concerts, community events and other major gatherings.

The new Aloha Stadium plans involve a public-private partnership to build a new, multipurpose stadium and a mixed-use entertainment district.
