Construction work at the Alte Försterei Training Center in Berlin, Germany, is on in full swing.
‘fc-union-berlin.de’ stated that however, there are few hiccups to be overcome in relation to the expansion of the Bundesliga team Union Berlin home facility – the Stadion An der Alten Försterei in Germany.
The Alte Försterei Training Center refers to a new training facility being built for the Bundesliga team 1. FC Union Berlin Football Club located next to their home ground – the Stadion An der Alten Försterei in Berlin, Germany. This new center will include a sports functional building, a parking garage and a new training field to provide modern facilities for both the Men’s and Women’s professional teams.
The 1. FC Union Berlin is a professional football club based in Berlin, Germany, that plays in the Bundesliga, the highest level of the German football league system.
The Stadion An der Alten Försterei is a football stadium in Köpenick and the largest single-purpose football stadium in the German capital of Berlin. It serves as the home pitch of the football club 1. FC Union Berlin.
‘fc-union-berlin.de’ further stated that in this regard the Union President Dirk Zingler contacted the club members by mail recently to inform them about the current status and an important decision arrived at.
The mail read, “For many years, we have been working towards the urgently needed expansion of our stadium. The requirements of the necessary development plan process demands a lot from us and we invest a lot of time, energy and money for the same. The long duration of the expansion exercise stretches all of our patience which is why I would like to inform you about the current status and an important decision arrived at on our part. Despite all efforts we have so far been unable to reach an agreement with the relevant Senate administrations on how the traffic infrastructure around the Stadion An der Alten Försterei can accommodate the planned 40,500 visitors on matchdays allowing them to get to the stadium and back home in an acceptable time for all parties while not excessively burdening the normal traffic flows in Köpenick.”
The mail mentioned the need for more seating areas as a lot of fans were aging.
To ensure that the expansion of the stadium does not hit a speedbreaker Zingler shared that they have decided “to equip the upper tier of the stadium in addition to the already equipped Sectors 3 and 5 with seating in Sectors 2 and 4 while keeping the lower tier as standing places as planned.”
With around 18,800 standing places and 15,700 seating places the capacity of the stadium will rise to around 34,500 places in a stadium suitable for the Bundesliga fixtures following the expansion “which is the need of the hour”. The new Alte Försterei will rank among the Top 20 stadium capacities in Germany with this size while putting less strain on the traffic skirting the stadium.
Detailed discussions on the seating and standing places as well as the specific design, especially of the upper tier on the Waldseite, will be discussed soon with the relevant fan groups of the club and the top-flight will try to take all views into consideration with fans’ interest foremost.
