Melbourne & Olympic Parks CEO John Harnden AM confirmed on November 24th that insurance services giant AAMI has extended its naming rights of Melbourne’s (Australia) iconic and most celebrated rectangular stadium – AAMI Park – for a further five years.
The ‘Melbourne Rebels’ stated that AAMI was the inaugural naming rights sponsor of the 30,000-seat stadium from when it opened in May 2010 and will now continue that partnership until at least 2026.
Welcoming more than 2.5 million people across hundreds of events annually, Melbourne & Olympic Parks (M&OP) has long been the home of the most iconic and world-class event experiences Australia has to offer.
It is Australia’s heart of sport and entertainment and its venues comprise:
- Rod Laver Arena – The 14,820-capacity arena is home to the Australian Open and the most iconic experiences Australia has to offer;
- Margaret Court Arena – The 7,500-capacity arena is one of Australia’s premier multiuse arenas;
- John Cain Arena – The 10,500-capacity arena is Victoria’s home of elite indoor sport;
- AAMI Park – The 30,050-capacity stadium is Australia’s premier sport and entertainment rectangular venue; and
- Centrepiece at Melbourne Park – Melbourne’s most surprising conference and events venue capacity stands at 780.
The 30,050-capacity Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, known as AAMI Park for sponsorship reasons, is an outdoor sports stadium on the site of Edwin Flack Field in the Sports and Entertainment Precinct in the Melbourne City Centre (Australia).
The Australian Associated Motor Insurers Limited (commonly referred to as AAMI) is an Australian general insurance provider offering car, home, CTP, and business insurance. AAMI has vehicle assessment centers in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, and Western Australia.
The ‘Melbourne Rebels’ further stated that Melbourne’s purpose-built home for rugby union will host its first Super Rugby match in 288 days when the hometown Rebels clash with their peer team the Brumbies on February 27th, 2022 at 4 pm, in Round 2 of the Super Rugby Pacific season.
The Melbourne Rebels is an Australian professional rugby union team based in Melbourne. They made their debut in SANZAR’s Super Rugby tournament in 2011. They were the first privately-owned professional rugby union team in Australia, until 2017 when shares in the franchise were returned to the Victorian Rugby Union.
SANZAAR (South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, and Argentina Rugby, previously known as SANZAR) is the body which oversees Super Rugby and The Rugby Championship competitions in rugby union.
The Rebels’ clash will be part of a historic Super Round, which will see all 12 competing teams travel to Melbourne for an enthralling three days of world class rugby.
Over the 15 week regular season, the Rebels will play at AAMI Park seven times – the most since 2019.
