The Ligue 1 team Paris Saint-Germain FC (France) could move to a new City and build a new $1billion stadium.
There is already a plan in place for Poissy (commune in France).
‘THE Sun’ stated that the French giants are keen to expand and the local authorities could prevent an upgrade to their current ground, the Parc des Princes in Paris, France.
The Paris Saint-Germain FC, commonly referred to as Paris Saint-Germain or simply PSG, is a French professional football club based in Paris (France). They compete in Ligue 1, the top division of French football. With 52 major trophies won the PSG are the most decorated club in France and are generally considered the country’s biggest club.
The Parc des Princes is an all-seater football stadium in Paris, France. The stadium, with a seating capacity of 48,229 spectators, has been the home of the football club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) since 1974.
‘THE Sun’ further stated that the PSG do not own the Parc des Princes and pay £1.5 million a year in rent to the Paris City Hall.
The club Owners – the Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) – wanted to undertake an expansion of the stadium that could have cost up to £370 million – but only if they could become the owners of the site.
Doha (Qatar)-based the Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) is a strategic, long-term private investment vehicle targeting established and early-stage sports assets. The QSI adds value through hands-on, expert-driven management and innovative capital solutions. The QSI was founded in 2004 and is one of the foremost groups in world sport investing in and operating assets in the sports sector across the globe.
A PSG statement emphasized the importance of owning the stadium in maintaining the club’s growth but they estimate a decision on the site will not be made until Autumn 2026.
The Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo confirmed the sale of the site is not currently an option and that led the PSG to examine potential new areas for a stadium.
The final locations are Massy, which is South of Paris and Poissy to the West, where the PSG train at their campus ground.
The statement outlines that the club do not prefer one option over the other but there is already a plan in place for Poissy.
The PSG have picked out a plot of land that could be suitable for a 90,000-capacity stadium.
The project could exceed £740 million and would be situated on a site owned by the automotive giant Stellantis.
The Stellantis N.V. is a multinational automaker formed in 2021 through the merger of the Italian-American conglomerate Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and the French PSA (Peugeot S.A.) Group. The company’s headquarters is in Hoofddorp, Netherlands.
As well as a stadium the PSG want to build a real estate project based on models used internationally, particularly in American arenas like the 70,000-capacity SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California (US).
A PSG source stated, “We take note and we must move forward with the other options. Owning your stadium is not a whim or a simple posture: The big European teams operate with this model. The economic competitiveness of the recent winner of the Champions League depends on it. If tomorrow the Parc des Princes is saleable we will see if we include it in our options. But, I imagine that it will not change before the Municipal elections.”
