The Bundesliga giants FC Bayern Munich is taking measures to keep lights off to the extent possible in their spectacular home pitch – the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.
‘Bild’ stated that adding to the top-flight’s woes is the Russian despot, Vladimir Putin, who is most of the time cutting off gas supply to the European countries following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the West denouncing the same and imposing sanctions on Russia.
FC Bayern Munich or simply Bayern is a German professional sports club based in Munich, Bavaria (Germany). It is best known for its professional football team, which plays in the Bundesliga, the top tier of the German football league system.
The Allianz Arena is a football stadium in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, with a 70,000 seating capacity for international matches and 75,000 for domestic matches. Widely known for its exterior of inflated ETFE plastic panels, it is the first stadium in the world with a full color changing exterior.
‘Bild’ further stated that the Bundesliga is bracing up for a power-crisis season as the dust is yet to settle on the Ukraine war.
To save on energy, Bayern has adopted the following steps at Allianz Arena:
- The red exterior lighting is only switched on for three hours after nightfall at the striking venue – instead of the usual six hours which was the norm before;
- The gas-powered turf heating is switched to air-heat pumps, the electricity is supplied by solar panels installed in the arena;
- Ventilation and air conditioning hours throughout the stadium will be reduced (not so cold in Summer, not so warm in Winter);
- The boxes are only cooled or heated on days when the companies have previously announced their use; and
- Only cold water will be supplied in all toilet areas!

We have intensified the same further following Russia cutting off gas supply most of the times which is leading to a spurt in gas prices worldwide and also energy crisis.”
