Some 13 Italian cities with 16 stadiums are in contention to host matches at UEFA Euro 2032 as a technical assessment of their merits begins.

Italy and Türkiye will host the tournament which will take place between June and July 2032. Each country will have five host cities.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) said that in the coming weeks discussions with the parties involved will continue to consolidate and refine the dossiers ahead of selecting the venues to be submitted to UEFA by 1 October.

The 2032 Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) European Football Championship, commonly referred to as the UEFA EURO 2032 or simply EURO 2032, will be the 19th UEFA European Championship, the quadrennial international football championship organized by UEFA for the senior Men’s national teams of its member associations.

In line with the UEFA EURO 2032 timeline, by 31 July the FIGC had received documentation from the interested venues to verify compliance with the requirements set by European football’s governing body.

Thirteen cities – Bari (Stadio San Nicola), Bologna (Stadio Renato Dall’Ara), Cagliari (new stadium), Florence (Stadio Artemio Franchi), Genoa (Luigi Ferraris Stadium), Lecce (Stadio Via del mare), Milan (San Siro), Naples, Palermo (Stadio Renzo Barbera), Rome, Salerno (Arechi Stadium), Turin (Allianz Stadium) and Verona (Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi) – with 16 stadiums, have submitted their documentation.

Rome has reportedly put forward three venues: the renovated Stadio Olimpico, AS Roma’s proposed new stadium in Pietralata, and the Stadio Flaminio.

Naples is expected to have submitted two proposals including the redeveloped Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, financed by the Municipality and Region, and a new venue supported by Napoli’s owner Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Bologna has proposed the construction of a new multifunctional stadium with a capacity of over 30,000 spectators.

The submissions will now be reviewed as part of the technical assessment process aimed at verifying compliance with the infrastructural, licensing, financial and organisational standards required to be eligible to host the tournament.

The stadiums need to fit the various strict UEFA standards in order to host the EURO 2032 tournament, and there are fears very few arenas are currently able to fulfil those criteria.
