5G leg-up for London Stadium

London Stadium announced on Monday that it has switched on a new 5G network thus offering fans a fully connected experience as limited fans returned to the venue fold recently. EE’s 5G network will enable increased speed and reliability to the East London Stadium, enabling supporters to stay connected when attending events.

London Stadium is a multipurpose outdoor stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in the Stratford district of London. It was constructed specifically for the 2012 Summer Olympics and 2012 Summer Paralympics, serving as the track-and-field venue, and as the site of their opening and closing ceremonies.

EE (formerly Everything Everywhere) is a British mobile network operator and Internet service provider, which is a brand within the BT (formerly British Telecom) Group. EE is the largest mobile network operator in the United Kingdom, with 27.5 million subscribers as of October 2020.

As 5G will allow enhanced speeds, onlookers will get to enjoy better and it will also improve the event day experience for them, adding more capacity on site to ensure reliable and consistent mobile usage. Added to the recent installation of HD WiFi, fans will have access to fast and stable download speeds irrespective of the fact as to in which spot they are in the facility. The London Stadium can hold up to 80,000 spectators for events and with an ever-increasing demand for online access, the boost to the arena’s connectivity will help consolidate its position as the country’s most successful multiuse venue.

In addition, 5G capability will offer benefits for the day-to-day operations, safety, and security of the venue. The advanced speeds will also support the venue’s recent move to cashless transactions, allowing for quicker and hygienic payments at point of sale in these times of coronavirus crisis. The improved connectivity will give more accurate access to location services and the opportunity to introduce multiple technologies which can be used simultaneously across the stadium and the immediate vicinity of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The 5G switch on at London Stadium follows EE’s installation of 4G at the Olympic Stadium (read London Stadium formerly and also known as Olympic Stadium) for the 2012 games.
