LA Memorial Coliseum renovation at top speed

The landmark LA Memorial Coliseum which will be called United Airlines Memorial Coliseum starting 2019 is forging ahead with its renovation at full speed, according to various news reports.

Built in 1923, the Coliseum is in need of a complete overhaul. The $270 million renovation project started in January this year to improve the look and facilities of the Coliseum. The work is scheduled to complete in the fall of 2019 before the football season.

Once the renovations are done the venue will have new wider seats with more legroom and hand rails along the seating reducing the total capacity to 77,500. A new building which will be named Scholarship Club Tower is being built on the south side with suites, loges, club seats, concourse and new press box for an improves game-day experience for the fans. The venue construction will continue through the USC 2018 football season having an impact on the fans’ experience.

The venue will also have updates Wi-Fi technology throughout the stadium and an improved audio-video including two large screens at the east end of the stadium. New concession stands will be added while the older ones will see an upgrade.

All these changes will take place keeping the historical integrity of the coliseum intact. The archetypal peristyle is being renovated to resemble the original design.

The purpose of the renovation is to improve the game-day experience of the fans with the introduction o the new facilities and concessions. The football team will have world class facilities and home field advantage.

Home of the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans football team, the coliseum will become the first stadium to have hosted the Summer Olympics three times, first time in 1932, second in 1984 and the third will be in 2028.
