Venue construction work on the new Las Vegas Ballpark in Downtown Summerlin is on full-swing as the Las Vegas 51s – the city’s minor league baseball team – eye to play their first game in the $150 million ballpark against the Sacramento River Cats on April 9, 2019.

It is expected that by then the Las Vegas 51s will have a new team name and Major League Baseball (MLB) affiliation.

According to LasVegasNow.com, whose reporter Jon Tritsch recently took stock of the construction site, “heavy machinery is changing the Las Vegas landscape” as “mounds of dirt give way to a brand new baseball park for the 51s” in Summerlin.

Nobody is throwing curve ball at the construction time table with the new HOK-designed stadium is poised to become a crown jewel in the area, the report said.

“This is going to be the best minor league ballpark in America,” 51s President Don Logan told Tristch.

The 51s are slated to depart Cashman Field following the 2018 season for Las Vegas Ballpark. The 51s had worked for nearly 36 years to replace Cashman Field, adding to the anticipation of the new ballpark.

“One of the good things about having to wait to get this done is that we’ve seen what everybody else has done, and have an idea of what works,” Logan said.

Aside from being an upgrade over Cashman Field in terms of player facilities, Las Vegas Ballpark will offer several amenities that should make for a unique fan experience, including a 36-foot high, 130-foot long scoreboard to state-of-the-art weight and training facilities.

“I think it’s the 21st largest scoreboard in all of baseball,” Logan said.

Wholly owned by The Howard Hughes Corporation, the Las Vegas Ballpark is being designed by HOK, a global architecture firm that has designed more than 40 professional and collegiate stadiums worldwide. The stadium is expected to seat 10,000 fans, but it will provide a wide range of seating options including 22 suites, club seats, berm seating, party zones and decks, picnic tables, kids’ zone, bars and even a pool beyond the outfield wall. Parking will be conveniently located on adjacent sites.

“You want to create destinations within the ballpark where people want to go,” he was earlier quoted as saying by the ballparkdigest.com. “At the end of the day, this is a business and we need to figure out ways to generate revenue.”

The new ballpark “is going to be the place to be seen in. We’ve really put the time and energy to do it and do it right,” Logan quipped.
