Buckingham Group to spruce up Forests’ venue

Construction company Buckingham Group Contracting Limited – which operates throughout England and Wales – has been given the responsibility of delivering Nottingham Forest FC’s new stand and redecorating the entire stadium.

Nottingham Forest is a professional football club based in West Bridgford, England.

Media reports stated that it is likely that construction work could start on the £100-million redevelopment scheme just before the summer, making the City Ground the largest stadium in the East Midlands. The job is expected to be over in time for the start of the 2021-22 seasons.

The scheme of things is to build a new Peter Taylor Stand (south) and renovating all the remaining sides: The Trentside area, Brian Clough and Bridgford Stands.

A museum, new club shop and an array of hospitality lounge facilities will comprise the new three-tiered stand. When complete, the City Ground’s capacity will reach 38,000 from 30,000.

The club revealed the stadium plan drawn up by Benoy Architect – an international firm of architects. An agreement has been entered into with the City Council for an extended lease on the City Ground.

It is expected that the work will be over by July 2021. However, meeting the deadline also depends on the planning proceedings. The application was filed by Nottingham Forest in December 2019.

The scheme is being designed out of Benoy Architect’s Newark office in US. It is to be noted that Benoy Architect’s Chairman Graham Cartledge and his son Tom, the design practice’s Chief Executive, both hold the posts of Non-Executive Directors in Nottingham Forest FC – the two-time European Cup winners.

The renovated Peter Taylor stand, named after the assistant to Manager Brian Clough during the club’s European Cup winning years in 1979 and 1980, will include 10,000 seats as well as hospitality space.

The club, who were last in the Premier League back in 1999, are currently in the play-off places in the Championship.

The Riverside Stand of Fulham Football Club in London which can accommodate 9,000 supporters is currently being built by the Buckingham Group. It is being built at the Championship side’s home ground Craven Cottage.

The wider project of Nottingham Forest FC, first unveiled in February 2019, also envisages creating more than 200 apartments and a 100-bed hotel.
