Qatar World Cup numbers

As Qatar moves steadily towards the preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup™, let’s take a look at some of the numbers and organisational elements that aims to make this event spectacular.

  • The sporting event will use enough broadcast cabling to reach from Doha to Sochi, one of the host cities for the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ Russia.
  • There will be 2.3 million metres of fibre optic and ethernet cable – enough to cover the distance from Doha to Mumbai.
  • Qatar will also install 70,000 outdoor lights for the 2022 World Cup, which is more than three times as many lights as in the Eiffel Tower.
  • The several infrastructure projects will consume nearly 84,000 tonnes of structural steel, which is more than twice the amount used for Burj Khalifa.
  • 9,200 trees will be planted in the areas surrounding the proposed 2022 FIFA World Cup™ host venues, more than double the amount in London’s Hyde Park.
  • It is estimated that a total of 10,880 doors will be used in various projects linked with the World Cup, which is 26 times the number of doors in the White House and 7 times as many as Buckingham Palace.
