Jeddah ‘gear’ up for Formula 1 showpiece

The foundation stone for the 6,175m long Jeddah Formula One Circuit was laid on April 11th on the Jeddah Corniche (Saudi Arabia) in the presence of Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al-Abdullah Al-Faisal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation, and other members of the Federation.

The ‘Saudi Press Agency’ stated that the track is expected to host the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix which will run from December 3rd to 5th, 2021.

The Jeddah Street Circuit – designed by Hermann Tilke (German racing driver and circuit designer) – is a street circuit to be raced on December 5th, 2021 as the penultimate race on the Formula One season calendar. The circuit is due to stage the inaugural Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is a Formula One motor race that is due to first take place in 2021. The inaugural edition of the race is set to be held in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). The race is set to be the second full night race on the Formula One calendar, following the Singapore Grand Prix.

The Singapore Grand Prix is a motor race which forms part of the FIA Formula One World Championship. The event takes place on the Marina Bay Street Circuit (Singapore) and was the inaugural night race and first street circuit in Asia designed for Formula One races.

The ‘Saudi Press Agency’ further stated that constructing the circuit will be implemented according to best local and international standards, where local stones will be used to build the surface of the circuit, while sustainability will be accorded the highest priority during the construction stages and a strong message as regards protecting the planet will be send out while holding the race in the sense that waste materials will be used while constructing the track.

The 6,175-meter-long Jeddah Circuit will host the penultimate race on the Formula One season calendar.

Formula One is the highest class of international auto racing for single-seater formula racing cars sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile.
