The construction company PORR will construct the new stadium of the Austrian professional football club Linzer ASK (Austria).

The ‘LASK’ stated that PORR was awarded the contract for the major construction work of the Raiffeisen Arena. The official sod turning ceremony will take place on October 9th, 2021.

The PORR is one of the largest construction companies in Austria and among Europe’s leading providers. As a full service provider, it offers every service in building construction, civil engineering and infrastructure construction, covering the entire value chain.

Linzer ASK, or simply LASK, is an Austrian professional football club from the Upper-Austrian State capital Linz. It is the oldest football club in that region and plays in the Austrian Football Bundesliga, the top tier of Austrian football.

The Raiffeisen Arena is a multiuse stadium in Pasching, Austria. It is used for football matches and is the home ground of LASK Linz and FC Juniors OÖ. LASK will use the stadium until their new stadium is in place in 2022. The stadium holds 7,870 and was built in 1990.

The ‘LASK’ further stated that following the regional administrative court giving the go-ahead for construction recently, the Austrian construction group PORR has now been awarded the contract for the construction works of the new Raiffeisen Arena.

Since the invite for tenders was floated again, the budget was within the financial wherewithal of PORR but resulted in work getting delayed by several months.

The stadium construction work is expected to be completed by February 10th, 2023 at the latest so that LASK can play the second half of the 2022-2023 seasons in the refurbished Raiffeisen Arena. However, the top-flight is in negotiations with PORR to pave the way for playing in the redecorated facility earlier.

Stated LASK President Dr. Siegmund Gruber, “Both LASK and PORR are aware that the new stadium is both a flagship project as part of the Upper Austria plan with 1.2 billion euros in investment by the State and will sit at a prime location in Linz.”

The new Raiffeisen Arena meets the international requirements laid down by the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) – the governing body of football in Austria – and will be in a position to hold international matches once again. Additionally, the arena would fully stick to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Category 4 criteria and will be able to hold matches till Champions League semi-finals.

Enthused BM Ing. Alexander Altmüller, Technical Branch Manager, PORR, Upper Austria, “We are proud to be associated with this prestigious LASK project and showcase our entire range of services.”

Added Gruber, “We are so happy to have PORR in the driver’s seat as far as construction is concerned. They are construction connoisseurs and we look forward to work in perfect harmony with them.”

PORR is all set for the groundbreaking ceremony to be held in the forecourt of the future Raiffeisen Arena in Linz. Strict COVID-19 protocols will be in place.
