The two competitions of the 70th Four Hills Tournament at the German ski jumping locations in Oberstdorf (December 29th) and Garmisch-Partenkirchen (January 1st, 2022)will now take place without fans as Germany is reeling under attack from the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

The ‘kicker’ stated that the organizing committees are refunding the full ticket money to spectators.

The Four Hills Tournament or the German-Austrian Ski Jumping Week is a ski jumping event composed of four World Cup events and takes place in Germany and Austria each year since 1953. The ski jumping events are held at Oberstdorf (municipality in Germany), Garmisch-Partenkirchen (town in Germany), Innsbruck (City in Austria), and Bischofshofen (town in Austria).

The ‘kicker’ further quoted Florian Stern, Managing Director of SkiclubOberstdorfVeranstaltungs GmbH, as stating, “Due to strict coronavirus measures in place in the State of Bavaria, we are left with no other option but to hold the ski events without fans. Fans could have attended the games because we had laid down strict COVID-19 protocols.”

Said Michael Maurer, Chairman of the Partenkirchen Ski Club, “Should the restrictions be lifted in Bavaria again within the next three weeks, which seems a remote possibility, we will be back to selling tickets again within few hours.”
