The Tokyo Dome (Japan) – home of the Yomiuri Giants baseball team – will undergo renovation. The revamp work is scheduled to start from March 2022.

The ‘Yomiuri Giants’ stated that in addition to installing a new LED vision in the venue, other renovation plans include redecorating the entrance gate/concourse and setting up spectator seats for various watching styles so that all visitors can fully enjoy the world of Giants with all five senses. The baseball team will also accelerate DX, the stadium will go completely cashless and face recognition technology will be introduced.

The Tokyo Dome is a stadium in Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan. Construction on the stadium began on May 16th, 1985, and it opened on March 17th, 1988. It was built on the site of the Velodrome, adjacent to the predecessor ballpark Korakuen Stadium. It has a maximum total capacity of 57,000 depending on the configuration, with an all-seating configuration of 42,000. It is the home field of the Yomiuri Giants baseball team, and has also hosted music concerts, basketball, American football, and association football games, as well as puroresu (pro-wrestling) matches, mixed martial arts events, kickboxing events, and monster truck races.

The Yomiuri Giants are a professional baseball team based in Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan. The team competes in the Central League in Nippon Professional Baseball. They play their home games in the Tokyo Dome, opened in 1988.

New LED vision

The size of the new LED vision is about 125 meters wide and 1,050 m2 in area. The area is about 4.4 times larger than the conventional vision. In terms of image quality, it will be the highest level in domestic professional baseball stadiums, and one will be able to enjoy powerful scenes using high-definition images.

Redesigned gate/concourse

From each entrance gate of the Tokyo Dome to the audience seats, the design of the gates and the concourse will undergo changes so that fans can get immersed in the world of Giants. It will be redone as a comfortable and sophisticated space.

Going cashless

The ‘Yomiuri Giants’ further stated that all shops in the hall, seat sales, ticket counters in the hall, etc., will go completely cashless. With versatile cashless payments systems, fans can shop till they drop as well as watch the fixtures.

In addition, a ‘DX support desk’ will be set up in the hall to provide support to customers who are going for the cashless mode for the first time.

Seating configuration

New group seats will be installed, existing areas will be expanded and renovated. The original seating configuration will not be tampered with.

The seats will be changed to soft brown synthetic leather, equipped with a cup holder on the armrest, and the cushion on the seat surface will be thicker, making it a seat with improved functionality as well as containing the luxe element.

Hospitality at its best

A major renewal of the hospitality space will be carried out. From the entrance that welcomes customers to the lounge area, the interior will be completely renovated. A dedicated premium bar will also come up.

Tickling taste buds

Apart from the conventional menu, ‘shark fin soup soba’, a ball park menu such as hot dogs and nachos and a full range of sweets such as cupcakes and seasonal jellies will be on offer.

The ‘shark fin soup soba’ is an original menu of traditional Chinese soup with rich soup stock made from chicken and pork and shredded shark fin.

Luxe suite

The entrance, corridors, private rooms, and audience seats will all be refurbished, and new menus will be added so that fans can enjoy gourmet meal and have a whale of a time in the repurposed facility.
