QatarEngery new FIFA sponsor Image: Qatar 2022

Soccer’s global governing body FIFA has filled all of its global partnership slots ahead of the 2022 World Cup after agreeing to a new deal with QatarEnergy.

The ‘SP’ stated that QatarEnergy now sits in FIFA’s top sponsorship tier alongside the likes of Visa and Qatar Airways, in a segment that last year brought in US$93 million in revenue for the organization. Following the national flag carrier, the liquefied natural gas provider is now the second Qatari company in FIFA’s global sponsor category.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup™ is scheduled to be the 22nd running of the FIFA World Cup™ competition, the quadrennial international men’s football championship contested by the national teams of the member-associations of FIFA. It is scheduled to take place in Qatar from November 21st to December 18th, 2022.

QatarEnergy, formerly Qatar Petroleum, is a State-owned petroleum company of Qatar. The company operates all oil and gas activities in Qatar, including exploration, production, refining, transport, and storage. The President and head honcho is Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs.

The ‘SP’ further stated that the deal comes after QatarEnergy first linked up with FIFA last year as an official partner of the 2021 Arab Cup in Qatar.

Ahead of the 2022 World Cup, FIFA has confirmed it has one regional sponsor position left for the tournament after recently adding deals with the Crypto.com cryptocurrency exchange platform and Indian multinational educational technology firm BYJU’S in that category.

The tournament’s regional sponsor roster also includes communication technology firm Vivo, electronics manufacturer Hisense, Chinese dairy brand Mengniu, as well as household names McDonald’s and Budweiser.

Enthused Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, President and Chief Executive of QatarEnergy, “QatarEnergy is pleased to partner with FIFA again, this time in support of the iconic FIFA World Cup™, which will be held in Qatar and the Middle East for the first time ever. This partnership is a reflection of our continued support of various sports activities, and of football in particular, as the central attraction of the sporting world.”

Added FIFA President Gianni Infantino, “QatarEnergy is joining FIFA in this important FIFA World Cup™ year, and we are delighted to welcome them, as they share our excitement and enthusiasm for this first FIFA World Cup™ organized in the Arab world. This year’s tournament will expand football’s reach and shine a light on the region, bringing different cultures from across the globe together in Qatar to enjoy the best football in the world in stunning state-of-the-art venues.”
