Underdog Al-Faiha completed their storybook title run in the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup by beating fancied Al-Hilal in penalty kicks in the final on May 19th at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).

The ‘Saudi Gazette’ stated that Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman attended the final match in the tournament and presented the cup to Al-Faiha who won their first-ever King’s Cup trophy in their first trip to the final.

The Al-Faiha FC is a professional football club based in Al Majma’ah that plays in the Saudi Professional League, the first tier of Saudi Football. It was founded in 1953. Al-Faiha’s colors are orange and blue, hence the nickname ‘Al-Burtuqali’.

The Al-Hilal Saudi Football Club, or simply Al-Hilal, is a professional multisports club based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The football team competes in the Saudi Professional League. They are the most decorated club in Asia winning 64 official trophies. They also hold the record for the most continental trophies in Asia.

The King’s Cup, officially known as The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Cup, is the Saudi Arabian football knockout cup competition run by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation.

The 62,345-capacity King Abdullah Sports City Stadium is a multiuse stadium and sports City located 30 kilometers North of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The City was named after Abdullah, King of Saudi Arabia when the stadium opened.

The ‘Saudi Gazette’ further stated that the Crown Prince attended the final on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.

In winning their first major championship Al-Faiha took down two of the biggest clubs in the country, Al-Hilal and the Al-Ittihad Club.

The Al-Hilal entered the match looking to win their first local title this season. Instead it was the gritty Faiha side that lifted the champion trophy.
