Bolivia new venue plans with FIFA show dreams

The President of the Bolivian Football Federation (FBF), Fernando Costa, along with the Mayor of Santa Cruz, Jhonny Fernández, and businessman Julio Novillo, announced on June 7^th that they plan to construct a stadium for 65,000 people with the dream of hosting few 2030 World Cup fixtures. With this announcement they have joined the ranks of bidding countries – Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, and Paraguay – in this regard.

The ‘La Razón’ stated that Novillo is the leader of a group of businessmen who urbanize various areas of the Department of Santa Cruz. In addition, he also chairs the Nueva Santa Cruz club that participates in the Cruceña de Fútbol Association (ACF)-organized matches.

The Bolivian Football Federation is the governing body of football in Bolivia. It was founded in 1925, making it the eighth oldest South American federation. It affiliated to the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) and FIFA in 1926 and is in charge of the Bolivia national football team.

The 2030 FIFA World Cup™ will be the 24^th FIFA World Cup™, a quadrennial international football tournament contested by the men’s national teams of the member-associations of FIFA. The event will mark the centennial of the first World Cup.

The Department of Santa Cruz is one of the Bolivian departments with the least indigenous population, and the one with the greatest mestizo and Creole identity.

The Cruceña de Fútbol Association (ACF) is a sports institution in charge of governing the soccer clubs of the Department of Santa Cruz. Affiliated to the National Football Association, it also constitutes one of the nine leagues that make up the competition system at the regional level in Bolivia. It was founded in 1917 and consists of five divisions whose highest category is the First A.

Informed Novillo at a presser held on June 7^th, “We have presented our proposal expressing our desire to be one of the venues for the 2030 World Cup and we will consolidate all our efforts towards achieving the same with support from the Mayor and the Bolivian Football Federation.”

The ‘La Razón’ further stated that Santa Cruz will offer itself as one of the host countries for the 2030 soccer spectacle.

Pointed out Fernández, “We will have to work in unison and set a schedule to meet the deadlines. If we do our homework well, we will be able to attain our goal of hosting the 2030 World Cup.”

Costa stated that the dream is to bring the World Cup to Bolivia – “Surely, if we get selected as one of the host nations, Santa Cruz will be the center of activities and in this regard we are planning a new stadium with a capacity to hold 65,000 spectators. Mayor Fernández is totally committed towards sports. We also want Santa Cruz to hold a final fixture of the Copa Libertadores or South American Cup. We hope that when the FIFA Council will be held in December this year, we will be picked up as one of the hosts for the 2030 extravaganza. Till then, we are keeping our fingers crossed.”
