The Constanța Municipal Council (Romania) approved a draft decision as regards creating a feasible ambience to hand over to the National Investment Company (CNI) the construction of the Gheorghe Hagi Stadium.

‘Agenda Constructillor’ stated that the Constanța Municipal Council, by adopting the above initiative, wants to streamline the financing part as regards implementation of the stadium project by including it on the summary list of the Sports Complexes program through the National Program for Construction of Public or Social Interest, which will be carried out by the CNI.

The price tag of the new sports complex in Constanta – which has been taken over by CNI – is 533 million lei. According to the feasibility study completed in December 2021 by Popp and Asociatii, the new stadium ‘Gheorghe Hagi’ will boast 18,000 seats and around it will come up an esplanade, a training ground for football and athletics with a covered tribune on the West side, and a building for locker rooms.

CNI – Compania Nationala de Investitii – is the largest public developer in Romania and is under the control of the Romanian Government. It is also known as the National Investment Company (CNI) and was founded in the year 2001. The objective of CNI is to make the impossible possible and make Romania the cynosure of all eyes. With a budget of 200 to 220 million Euros per year, the developer is presently involved in more than 400 construction projects in the Southeastern European country simultaneously.

Adrian Cefalan, Investment Director, CNI, Romania, is a Member of Coliseum – Global Sports Venue Alliance.

The 15,520-capacity Stadionul Farul is a multipurpose stadium in Constanța, Romania. It is currently used mostly for football matches and until 2021 was the home ground of Farul Constanța. The stadium also functions as an athletics arena with track and field athletics facilities. In 1970, Stadionul Farul was the first stadium in Romania to host a floodlit football match. The stadium’s former name was Stadionul Gheorghe Hagi.

FCV Farul Constanța, commonly known as Farul Constanța or simply as Farul, is a Romanian professional football club based in the City of Constanța, Constanța County, which currently plays in Liga I.

‘Agenda Constructillor’ further stated that the current stadium, located on Primaverii Street No. 2-11, will be demolished and a sports complex will be built in its place, which will include, in addition to a new football stadium, a tennis arena (named after Simona Halep – Romanian tennis player), a sports center for recovery and training camps, and other facilities.

The entire Constanta sports complex will cover an area of approximately 90,000 square meters and will be built on the site of the current base in Primaverii Street.
