The Spanish football club Granada CF (Spain) will continue to play in Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes, and hope to do so in the long term.

‘2Playbook’ stated that the club, which plays in LaLiga SmartBank this season, will sign the renewal of the transfer agreement for the municipal stadium soon. The initiative in this regard has been taken by the Mayor of Granada, Paco Cuenca, the Councilor for Sports, José Antonio Huertas, and the General Director of the Granada CF, Alfredo García.

Granada CF – known simply as Granada – is a Spanish football club based in the City of Granada (Spain), in the autonomous community of Andalusia, that plays in the Segunda División, after being relegated from LaLiga in the 2021-2022 seasons.

The Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes is a multiuse stadium in Granada, Spain. Currently, it is used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 19,336 people, and was built in 1995 to serve as the home ground of Granada CF, the main football club of the City.

The Campeonato Nacional de Liga de Segunda División, commercially known as LaLiga 2 and stylized as LaLiga SmartBank for sponsorship reasons, is the men’s second professional association football division of the Spanish football league system.

‘2Playbook’ further stated that the Mayor will announce the dates shortly to submit the tender for renewal of the stadium agreement.

Granada CF has drawn up a redecoration plan for the municipal sports venue together with Molcaworld. The revamp work will be financed in part with money from LaLiga Impulse and CVC.

LaLiga and global investment fund CVC signed a strategic agreement in December 2021 setting in motion Boost LaLiga (‘LaLiga Impulso’), the project to boost the global growth of LaLiga and its clubs.

The agreement between LaLiga and CVC will see the league and clubs receive a total of €1.994 billion which will be used for technology, innovation, internationalization, and sporting growth initiatives.

Los Cármenes is a municipally-owned stadium that was inaugurated in 1995. During the last season, the club registered an occupancy rate of 74.6 percent since October, when the permitted capacity increased to 100 percent. On an average, there were 14,417 fans per game, although during the last five league games the average rose to 80 percent.

The Nasrid City Council will deliver the building permit for the second phase of the Sports City to the club in the coming days. With an investment of six million euros, Granada CF will develop a mini stadium and a second artificial turf pitch, as well as another 7-a-side football pitch and a covered sports court that will be used by the clubs in the neighborhood where the venue is located. The ‘Sports City’ project will take a year to get completed.
