It was indeed a red letter day for the top-flight Brazilian sports club Santos FC on December 1st. At an Extraordinary Session held, the club’s Board members approved unanimously the project for the construction of Arena Vila Belmiro, in partnership with the construction company WTorre.

‘Santos FC’ stated that the construction company’s head honcho, Claudio Macedo, attended the meeting to explain the details of the project, along with the architect who will design the arena – Luiz Volpato.

Santos Futebol Clube, commonly known simply as Santos or Santos FC and nicknamed the Peixe, is a Brazilian sports club based in Vila Belmiro, a bairro in the City of Santos in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. It is also the team which boasts the record of making maximum goals in football history.

The 16,068-capacity Urbano Caldeira Stadium, also known as Vila Belmiro, is an association football stadium located in the Vila Belmiro neighborhood of Santos, São Paulo, Brazil, and is the home of Santos FC.

Brazilian conglomerate group WTorre operates in the engineering and construction, real estate development, entertainment, infrastructure, and logistics sectors.

‘Santos FC’ further stated that the next step in the above exercise is the General Assembly which has been convened for the members on December 17th for the ‘yes’ or ‘no’ vote on the above development -the construction of the new home of Santos FC, which will be able to accommodate 30,000 fans. The planned venue will come up in the site where the Urbano Caldeira Stadium presently sits.

Remarked Andrés Rueda, President, Santos FC, “Our aim is to make a state-of-the-art facility in sync with the futuristic stadia which several countries boast today so that the fans can enjoy memorable moments in the venue. We will move forward on the above project keeping in mind the best interests of Santos FC.”
