The results are in following the ‘Have Your Say’ campaign regarding the possibility of safe standing being installed in the lower Tilton Road Stand at the St Andrew’s Stadium in Birmingham, England (UK).

‘Birmingham City FC’ stated that in March, Season Ticket holders for the previous four seasons and match ticket purchasers from the 2022-2023 campaign have been surveyed to gather their opinions on safe standing, as plans for the rebuild of the lower tiers reach the final stages.

The Birmingham City Football Club is a professional football club based in Birmingham, England (UK). Formed in 1875 as the Small Heath Alliance, it was renamed Small Heath in 1888, Birmingham in 1905, and Birmingham City in 1943. Since 2011, the first team have competed in the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football.

The 29,409-capacity St Andrew’s is an association football stadium in the Bordesley district of Birmingham, England (UK). It has been the home ground of Birmingham City Football Club for more than a century. From 2018 to 2021, it was known for sponsorship reasons as the St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium.

Survey Results

With more than 5,300 responses, the results of the survey are as follows:

  • Ninety-one (91) percent of supporters are in favor of safe standing;
  • Thirty-seven (37) percent of supporters would like to relocate their seat into a safe standing area;
  • Eighty-eight (88) percent of supporters believe safe standing would improve the atmosphere at St. Andrew’s; and
  • Sixty-four (64) percent of supporters would like an area of the lower Tilton to be reserved for match ticket purchasers.

‘Birmingham City FC’ further stated that following the conclusion of the survey, the club can now confirm that plans for safe standing in the lower tier of the Tilton Road Stand will be progressed. The appointed architects for the rebuild of the lower tiers had planned for both outcomes of the survey and will now finalize designs for the rail seating option.

The club anticipates being in receipt of the final designs for the lower tiers shortly. Once these have been received, initial completion dates, relocation details and further improvements to the affected areas will be communicated to the supporters.
