CSKA Sofia is a Bulgarian professional association football club based in Sofia and currently competing in the country’s premier football competition, the First League. CSKA is an abbreviation for Central Sports Club of the Army.

The Bulgarian Army Stadium is the home ground of the Bulgarian football club CSKA Sofia. It’s situated in the Borisova gradina in the center of Sofia (Bulgaria). The stadium has four sectors and a total of 22,995 seats, of which 2,100 are covered. The pitch length is 106 meters and the width is 66 meters.

‘CSKA Sofia’ further stated that though a lot of work remains to be done like obtaining the necessary permits yet the club’s dream of transforming their digs into a world-class facility is set to be realized.

‘World Today News’ stated that the Bulgarian Army Stadium in Borisov garden will be renovated for BGN 80-90 million. Once the revamp work is through, the stadium will be able to accommodate 16,000 spectators and it will be a fully covered facility.

Completion time is 18 months to two years once planning permission is obtained. Cash injection will be done by the owners of the club.

Shared Filip Filipov, Executive Director of CSKA Sofia, “This is a private investment by the owners.”

Post-renovation, the Bulgarian Army Stadium will be able to hold 16,000 spectators and will be categorized as Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Category 4 stadium.

A Category 4 stadium is able to host games in the playoffs of the qualifying stage for the UEFA Champions League, or any game in the main competition.

Nyon (Switzerland)-based the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is one of six continental bodies of governance in association football. It governs football, futsal and beach football in Europe and the transcontinental countries of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, and Kazakhstan, as well as some Asian countries such as Israel, Cyprus and Armenia. The UEFA consists of 55 national association members. Because of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the FIFA and UEFA suspended all Russian national teams and clubs from any FIFA and UEFA competitions.

‘World Today News’ further stated that there will be VIP boxes in three categories, the club museum, the fan shop, an event hall, dining areas, etc. The artificial pitches in front of Sector A will be removed. Sectors B, C and D redecoration work will be done with prefabricated elements, including the stands. Sector A is the most impressive section in the entire venue. The stadium can be best defined as a four-level modern structure.

The project report is yet to be presented before the Metropolitan Municipality for approval and a building permit to be issued. Construction is expected to begin this Fall.
