The third phase redevelopment of the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, Italy, started on June 5th.

‘Atalanta Bergamo’ stated that the renovation work will entail the Curva Sud Morosini (Morosini South Curve), the Away Section and the Distinti Sud (in addition to the construction of the adjacent underground parking lot and all rated infrastructure works as per the implementing regulation).

The Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia, known for sponsorship reasons as the Gewiss Stadium since July 2019 and as Stadio di Bergamo in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) competitions, is a stadium in Bergamo, Italy. It is the home of the Serie A club Atalanta B.C. and has a capacity of 21,000 seats. The field is 120 m long and 70 m wide.

The Atalanta B.C., commonly referred to as Atalanta, is a professional football club based in Bergamo, Lombardy, Italy. The club plays in Serie A (the top of the Italian football league system), having gained promotion from Serie B in 2010-2011. The Gewiss Stadium serves as their home ground.

The dismantling of both the Curva Sud Morosini and the Away Section will commence on June 8th. Interested fans can watch the refurbishing exercise from outside of the Gewiss Stadium – from the square in front of the Curva Sud Morosini.

The second phase revamp work of the Gewiss Stadium was carried out in Summer 2020.

‘Atalanta Bergamo’ further stated that a mammoth excavator armed with a crusher will be deployed to demolish in a controlled and streamlined manner the terraces of the South Stand.

The Distinti Sud will be pulled down at a later stage as the technical space of the venue sits in the Distinti Sud area.

The rejig work is expected to be over by the end of Summer 2024. Once the redecoration work is through, the capacity of the Gewiss Stadium will significantly come down. In fact, between the Curva Sud Morosini and the Distinti Sud it will be circa minus 3,500 seats.

By the end of Summer 2024, it is expected that the fans of Atalanta B.C. and the people of Bergamo will be able to enjoy matches in a spiffy and chic Gewiss Stadium with all kind of premium facilities on offer which is sure to provide the fans an enthralling experience and bang for their bucks.
