The Ligue 1 team Stade Rennais F.C. are reportedly exploring the possibility of moving out of their residence – the Roazhon Park in Rennes, France – and building a brand-new stadium at Rennes itself.

‘GET FOOTBALL’ stated that it is no secret by now that the ambitious Ligue 1 club is starting to outgrow the 29,000-strong Roazhon Park. Barring a Ligue 1 game last January against OGC Nice, ‘Les Rouge et Noir’ have been playing in a soldout ground for the past 18 months, which means that Stade Rennais are bound to refuse hundreds if not thousands of applications for season ticket holders.

Paris (France)-based Ligue 1, officially known as Ligue 1 Uber Eats for sponsorship reasons, is a French professional league for men’s association football clubs. Being the top of the French football league system, it is France’s primary football competition.

The Stade Rennais Football Club, commonly referred to as Stade Rennais, Rennes, or simply SRFC, is a French professional football club based in Rennes, Brittany (France). It competes in Ligue 1, the top tier of French football, and plays its home matches at the Roazhon Park.

The Roazhon Park is a football stadium in Rennes, Brittany, France. Roazhon is the Breton name of Rennes. The stadium was inaugurated on September 15th, 1912. It is located at 111 route de Lorient in West-Central Rennes. Rebuilt in 2001 and able to seat 29,778, the stadium is currently the home of Stade Rennais.

‘GET FOOTBALL’ further stated that recently, the club’s higher-ups raised the topic of an extension of the Roazhon Park, which is owned by the City. However, the stadium is located on the banks of the Vilaine River and near Rennes’ Ring Road, making the prospect of months-long heavy work difficult to envision.

The Stade Rennais have launched a feasibility study for the building of a brand-new stadium. The ground would be located near Roazhon Park, in an industrial wasteland opposite the Ring Road West of Rennes. The proposed stadium’s capacity would get close to the 40,000 mark. The club’s owner, French billionaire luxury mogul François Pinault, is open to the idea of a new home for the top-notch club.
