Greg Stremlaw who is the top honcho of the American professional soccer team Indy Eleven is full-of-beans about the new home – the Eleven Park in Indianapolis (US) – which is currently under construction for the United Soccer League (USL) team.

Greg Stremlaw is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Indy Eleven and is spearheading the new $1 billion-plus Eleven Park development project in Indianapolis, Indiana, US.

James A. Renne, AIA, who is the National Sports Director at JLL, US, the global residential and commercial real estate services company, is equally involved with the above project. He boasts wealth of experience in creating innovative sports and entertainment destinations.

In an exclusive conversation with ‘Coliseum’, Greg Stremlaw, CEO, Indy Eleven, US, says that he is upbeat about the entire development which he terms as his “baby” and points out that though there is a lot of challenges involved considering the fact that it will adjacent quite a few venues, but with the “best-in-class partners we will be able to sail through”. James A. Renne, AIA, National Director, Sports & Entertainment, JLL, US, informs that the above project is part of a larger district and the mission is to expand downtown.

Indy Eleven

The Indy Eleven is an American professional soccer team based in Indianapolis, Indiana, US. Founded in 2013, the team made its debut in the North American Soccer League in 2014, before moving to the United Soccer League (USL) in 2018. The 12,111-capacity IU Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium in Indianapolis presently serves as their residence.

Eleven Park

The 20,000-capacity Eleven Park is a soccer-specific stadium currently under construction on the site of the former Diamond Chain Company facility in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. It will serve as the future home of the Indy Eleven. The venue will be owned by the Capital Improvement Board which finances, constructs, equips, operates, and maintains any capital facilities or improvements of general public benefit or welfare which promote and serve the commercial, industrial and cultural interests of Indiana and its citizens.

James A. Renne terms the above project as a “major mixed-use development district which is part of a larger district and a major anchor of the district”.

Greg Stremlaw informed that the above project has been a “decade-long vision and we scouted several sites before zeroing in on this specific site called Diamond Chain on the market. We weighed all pros and cons and finally work started in June on this Populous-designed venue.”

Stremlaw further stated that the Eleven Park in Indianapolis will sit in a very “central” location with venues like the 70,000-capacity Lucas Oil Stadium, the 12,230-capacity Victory Field and the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis all “a stone’s throw away”.

Added Stremlaw, “The entire idea of this mixed-use district is to create a shop-stay-play village and we are scheduled to hold 55 to 100 events a year.”

Both Stremlaw and Renne stated that before embarking on the development the team involved in the project visited several mixed-use developments to “borrow ideas and get a clear picture of what a perfect mixed-use is like studying the interactive VIP areas and how fans make the best of Halftime”.

Sum-up

Greg Stremlaw is all agog about the “opportunities of multipurpose aspirations of the project per se and fans will be visiting the Eleven Park as a destination and we will be augmenting and connecting the central business districts of downtown Indianapolis. So, our development will be really connecting that downtown core.”
