New stadium revealed for Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan Image: Kanybek Tumanbaev (Facebook)

The construction of a yurt-like football stadium will begin in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (country in Central Asia), soon. The Head of the Presidential administration, Kanybek Tumanbaev, unveiled a preliminary design of the future football stadium.

The new stadium will be built in Orok, a village which sits outside of Bishkek.

‘KABAR’ stated that according to Tumanbaev, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Zhaparov, has ordered the construction of a 45,000-seat stadium. The preliminary design was developed jointly with a reputed international design firm.

A yurt is a portable, circular tent that is made of a wooden frame and covered with felt or skins. The word ‘yurt’ means a “place where one feels at home”. The yurts are sturdy and reliable, and have been the primary style of home in Central Asia for thousands of years. They have been an important part of the Central Asian culture since they were first developed around 3,000 years ago. The yurts are traditionally used as dwellings by the nomadic groups in the steppes and mountains of Inner Asia.

The cost of the stadium will come to circa 10 billion soms ($113 million) and will be financed by investors whose identity has not yet been disclosed. The stadium is expected to open in 2026.

‘KABAR’ quoted Kamchybek Tashiev, President of the Kyrgyz Football Union, as stating, “The preliminary stadium design has been drawn up keeping in mind our heritage, culture and traditions and is similar to a yurt. It is a futuristic design and the venue will boast shops, recreation areas and parking spaces. We will begin construction work soon.”

The stadium project will be overseen by the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security in Kyrgyzstan Kamchybek Tashiev, who is also the President of the Kyrgyz Football Union.

Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan)-based the Kyrgyz Football Union is the governing body of football in Kyrgyzstan. The organization controls the Kyrgyzstan national football team, the Kyrgyzstan national futsal team and sponsors the Kyrgyz Professional Football League.

Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan)-based the State Committee for National Security is the national agency responsible for intelligence on counter-terrorism and organized crime in Kyrgyzstan.
