Surrey County Cricket Club has joined forces with sustainable energy supplier SSE Energy Solutions for the upcoming year.

Surrey CCC said the partnership will look to engage directly with fans about sustainability initiatives which is crucial to educate and inspire people around shared net zero goals for the future.

SSE Energy Solutions will have a prominent presence throughout the iconic Kia Oval venue with branding featured in-bowl, on digital displays, and work with the club on sustainable initiatives around the venue.

There will also be exclusive opportunities to reward customers with unique money-can’t-buy experiences at The Kia Oval.

SSE Energy Solutions provides renewable electricity for businesses from its UK wind farms and offers a growing suite of energy products, solutions and advice to support Business customers at whatever stage they are at on their journey to net zero.

The Kia Oval is a 27,500 capacity international cricket ground in Kennington, located in the borough of Lambeth, in south London.

Nikki Flanders, Managing Director, SSE Energy Solutions said, “Our purpose is to support customers to achieve their net zero plans. Surrey County Cricket Club and the Kia Oval are leading the way in sustainability, and by tapping into the passion of sport, we can engage with even more people on sustainability, meaning a better world for us all.”

Likewise, Surrey CCC and the Kia Oval have committed to the ambitious target of reaching net zero by 2030, which will require a reduction of 80% of the Club and venue’s emissions.

The club has committed to switching from halogen bulbs to efficient LED lights in the four 150ft floodlights around the ground.

This is expected to reduce energy consumption by approximately 40%, and reduce carbon emissions by around 168 tons, compared to the existing halogen bulbs.

Sustainability remains a key commitment for Kia and Surrey CCC, with both setting a series of ambitious goals.

Steve Elworthy, CEO at Surrey County Cricket Club, said, “We are thrilled to partner with SSE Energy Solutions, an organisation that shares our passion for sustainability. It’s hugely important for us to work with partners who will support us to drive awareness and action towards a net zero future. Together, we can make a significant impact.”

The partnership provides a great opportunity to engage with fans and power change together, making a meaningful difference in the global sustainability movement. Fans and customers should look out for a range of exciting activities throughout the season promoting sustainability, as well as the chance to win exclusive prizes and experiences.

Starting with SSE Energy Solutions helping Surrey to celebrate the Sustainabili-T20 fixture against Hampshire next Thursday.

Fans can look forward to an immersive experience, including an interactive quiz and an electric bikes activation, designed to both entertain and inform about the importance of sustainability.
