Italian Serie A club A.S. Roma has given a heads-up of how their new stadium to be built in the Pietralata neighborhood of Rome will look.

A.S. Roma’s top management, represented by Vice President Ryan Friedkin and CEO Lina Souloukou, met with the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, to discuss the exciting plans for the club’s new stadium.

The new stadium is expected to have a capacity of around 55,000, with the possibility of raising this to 62,000 for special events. Some 5,500 seats would be dedicated to VIP fans.

A.S. Roma said the meeting was marked by a shared enthusiasm for the project’s innovative nature and the numerous benefits it promises for both football fans and the wider community.

A.S. Roma, commonly referred to as Roma, is a professional football club based in Rome, Italy. Founded by a merger in 1927, Roma has participated in the top tier of Italian football for all of its existence, except for the 1951-1952 seasons.

The club currently plays at the 72,698-capacity Stadio Olimpico – the largest sports facility in Rome, Italy. It is located within the Foro Italico sports complex, North of the City. The structure is owned by the Italian National Olympic Committee and it is used primarily for association football.

Architect Populous is in charge of the design of the club’s new home and the release of the project’s video presentation has garnered an enthusiastic response, showcasing the unique vision and modern design of the new stadium.

Key to this vision is the new Curva Sud, set to become the largest in Europe, which will stand as a testament to the unwavering passion of AS Roma’s supporters, the club said.

Friedkin said: “It was an honor to meet today with the Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, and present our vision for the new stadium.

“This extraordinary stadium is not only a new home for AS Roma and its fans but also a landmark for all the citizens of Rome. The new Curva Sud, set to become the largest Curva in Europe, will be a powerful focal point that embodies the passion and energy of our supporters.

“With its iconic design inspired by classical Roman architecture and state-of-the-art facilities, the stadium will offer a world-class experience to everyone, from football fans to the local community.

“As proud custodians of AS Roma, we are committed to creating a space that embodies the spirit and tradition of our club while becoming a global symbol of innovation and excellence and a model of environmental responsibility.”

The commitment to make the new stadium a model of environmental responsibility aligns with the club’s values and the broader goals of the city of Rome, Gualtieri said.

During the meeting, both parties discussed and agreed on a roadmap to advance the project, including the establishment of working groups that will focus on various aspects of the development.

These groups will ensure that the project proceeds smoothly, with careful attention to environmental standards and community engagement.

The club added in a statement, “A.S. Roma and its leadership are dedicated to creating a landmark that not only enhances the fan experience but also contributes positively to the community and the environment. The new stadium project is poised to become a symbol of pride for the club, its fans, and the city of Rome.”
