Most fans of the Premier League team Manchester United F.C. prefer a new stadium rather the redeveloping the top-flight’s home ground – the Old Trafford in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England (UK), a survey has found.

‘BBC’ stated that more than 52 percent of the 50,000-plus season ticket holders, the members and the executive club members opted for a new build compared with 31 percent who supported refurbishing the existing stadium.

The rest were undecided on what the best option was.

The Manchester United Football Club, commonly referred to as Man United (often stylized as Man Utd) or simply United, is a professional football club based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England (UK). They compete in the Premier League, the top tier of English football.

The Old Trafford is a football stadium in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England (UK) and is the home of the Manchester United F.C. With a capacity of 74,310, it is the largest club football stadium (and second-largest football stadium overall after the 90,000-capacity Wembley Stadium) in the United Kingdom and the 12th-largest in Europe.

‘BBC’ further stated that no timeframe has been put on taking a final decision but it is understood that it will be Spring or Summer 2025 before the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force’s findings are fully considered.

The Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force is a group of local leaders and experts that was formed to explore the future of the Manchester United’s Old Trafford Stadium.

The task force is understood to have focused discussions on building a new 100,000-capacity stadium rather than redeveloping the existing ground.

It was thought the club’s owners and the task force, which includes the former United defender Gary Neville, the Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham and the World Athletics President Lord Coe, might arrive at a decision by the end of this year.

However, the United said that only an “options report” would be delivered by the end of the year.

‘Town Hall Sessions’

Rick McGagh, the club’s Director of Fan Engagement, said the club was delighted the survey had “received the most responses in the club’s history. We know how important our home is to the fans and we need to listen to them and gain all their views and insights in order to develop the world-class stadium they deserve. We are able to view the results through different lenses to understand if our season ticket holders feel differently about anything than, say, our official members. And if the younger fans have different views from the older fans, this insight is incredibly helpful.”

The club is holding “town hall” sessions at the Old Trafford to offer fans further information on the various options and plans being discussed.
