The Scottish Premiership team Rangers F.C. (UK) have appointed Patrick Stewart as their new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) bringing extensive football management experience to the club.

‘SCOTTISH BUSINESS NEWS’ stated that Stewart, a Glasgow University graduate with Aberdeen roots, joins Rangers after 18-year tenure with the Premier League team Manchester United F.C. (UK).

The Rangers Football Club is a professional football club in Glasgow, Scotland (UK). The team competes in the Scottish Premiership, the top division of Scottish football. The club is often referred to as the Glasgow Rangers though this has never been its official name.

The Ibrox Stadium is a football stadium on the South side of the River Clyde in the Ibrox area of Glasgow, Scotland (UK). The home of the Scottish Premiership team Rangers F.C., the Ibrox Stadium is the third-largest football stadium in Scotland with an all-seated capacity of 51,700.

‘SCOTTISH BUSINESS NEWS’ further stated that at Manchester United, Stewart’s career progressed from General Counsel to Interim CEO. His responsibilities included legal oversight, commercial operations, player contract negotiations, and liaising with the key football bodies.

He played a crucial role in establishing Manchester United’s women’s team (Manchester United Women Football Club) and oversaw a major investment transaction in 2023.

Stewart’s experience extends beyond club management having served on various Football Association (FA), Premier League and European Club Association working groups.

He has also acted as an arbitrator for the Court of Arbitration for Sport. This appointment underscores Rangers’ ambition to enhance their management expertise as they aim to strengthen their position in domestic and European football.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport is an international body established in 1984 to settle disputes related to sport through arbitration. Its headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland, and its courts are located in New York City (US), Sydney (Australia) and Lausanne. The temporary courts are established in current Olympic Host Cities.

Exulted John Gilligan, the Rangers’ Interim Chairman, “On behalf of the Board, I am delighted to welcome Patrick to the club as the CEO. Patrick comes with an excellent reputation and background bringing extensive experience of operating at senior levels during his 20-plus years in football. The Board continues in discussions with several excellent candidates for the role of Chairperson and expect to make an announcement of an appointment in the coming weeks.”
