Xavier Sánchez Gómez affirms with conviction that the BBVA Stadium in Guadalupe, Mexico, is a top-drawer venue. His role requires him to look into the commercial aspects of the venue.

He says that sustainability should be a key strategic priority for the venue operators and they should view the energy transition as an opportunity to move forward and grow.

Gómez is very proud that the BBVA Stadium will be a venue for the >2026 FIFA World Cup™ to be hosted jointly by the United States, Mexico and Canada.

He added, “The BBVA Stadium was also considered as the best stadium in Latin America back in 2015.”

Xavier Sánchez Gómez is the Chief Commercial Officer of the BBVA Stadium as well as the top-flight club C.F. Monterrey.

In an exchange with ‘Coliseum’, Xavier Sánchez Gómez, Chief Commercial Officer, BBVA Stadium and Club de Futbol Monterrey Rayados, Mexico, says that sustainability opens up business opportunities and when it comes to the environment there is no turning back for the C.F. Monterrey and they see economic and strategic sense to pursue the path. The top-notch club’s commitment to sustainability gets best reflected in their home ground – “The BBVA Stadium is skirted by 2,000 trees as part of an agreement that we have with the Municipality and it also enjoys 25,000 square meters of green area.” He also talks about Conexión Rayada – an event series organized by the C.F. Monterrey which provides the platform for the club’s sponsors and partners to congregate under one roof and grow business opportunities.

C.F. Monterrey

The C.F. Monterrey is a Mexican professional football club based in the Monterrey Metropolitan area, Nuevo León (Mexico) that plays in the Liga MX, the top division of Mexican football.

BBVA Stadium

The 53,500-capacity BBVA Stadium is an association football stadium in Guadalupe, Greater Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. It serves as the residence of the C.F. Monterrey. The beverage giant Fomento Económico Mexicano, S.A.B. de C.V. (FEMSA) is the Owner and Operator of the facility.

The BBVA Stadium is one of the most advanced soccer stadiums in Latin America. It’s a venue that challenges every preconception of what a modern soccer stadium should be. It opened in the year 2015 and is a fan-centric venue with clear sightlines and offers comfort in the stands. It boasts more premium seating than any other stadium in Latin America. The stadium has woven itself into the social fabric of Monterrey.

Expressing a feeling of accomplishment Xavier Sánchez Gómez stated, “The stadium is valued in +$200M USD and though the United States boast much more spiffy and expensive stadia but we are very proud that we have a venue like this in Monterrey. We have 3,500 parking spaces, two giant screens, WiFi connection for 30,000 people, and 200 surveillance cameras.”

Sustainability First

Informed Gómez, “The BBVA Stadium got the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification in 2015 and in 2024 we received the LEED Gold Certification We are working towards becoming a better and more sustainable venue.”

The BBVA Stadium operators go above and beyond to bolster its sustainability framework and position it as a driver of growth.

Fostering Commercial Synergies

Tasked with looking into the commercial side of the C.F. Monterrey and the BBVA Stadium he stated, “We are into fostering these long-term relationships and we keep warm ties with our commercial partners and sponsors. We have an added value by connecting all of these sponsors to the FEMSA procurement ecosystem (FEMSA is the owner and developer of the stadium and also owns the C.F. Monterrey). FEMSA provides a lot of business to a lot of companies, to a lot of people. So, we also add this value to the relationships that we have through the sponsors of the club so that they can also be a part of this FEMSA ecosystem.”

Conexión Rayada

He informed about the Conexión Rayada event “through which all our partners and sponsors are present at the stadium and we present to them our future plans that we have with the club in mind. It is actually a challenge to get everyone under one roof at the same time and discuss business opportunities.”

Added Gómez, “We launched the CF Monterrey Business Club as we want to reinforce the stadium’s role as a strategic hub beyond sports for commercial innovation. We are designing spaces within the stadium so that we can hold the network interactive discussions and value-driven workshops and also a curated content to inspire collaboration and spark innovation.”

Conclusion

Xavier Sánchez Gómez concluded by stating, “The stadiums can be imagined as innovation hubs when strategically leveraged and the secret sauce – the right mix of exclusivity, content and connections. Moreover, the commercial spaces within the sports venues offer unparalleled opportunities for fostering high-value relationships.”
