Chivas de Guadalajara to upgrade Estadio Akron Image: Estadio Akron on Facebook

The Estadio Akron in Jalisco (Mexico) is being revamped to emerge as the most up-to-the-minute stadium in the country and the upgrades will be done to meet the FIFA benchmarks for the 2026 FIFA World Cup™. The venue will hold four matches of the greatest soccer show on the planet.

‘chivasdecorazon.com.mx’ stated that the FIFA guidelines require that the safety quotient should be high in the stadia, state-of-the-art fields and an exalted fan experience so that the in-venue experience for the spectators per se is an unforgettable one.

The Estadio Akron, formerly known as the Estadio Omnilife and the Estadio Chivas, is a multipurpose stadium in Zapopan, near Guadalajara, in the Mexican State of Jalisco and is used mostly for football matches. It is the home of the Liga MX side C.D. Guadalajara. It is part of the JVC Complex and has a capacity to accommodate 49,813 supporters.

The C.D. Guadalajara, nicknamed ‘Chivas’ and simply known as Guadalajara or internationally as the Chivas de Guadalajara, is a Mexican professional football club based in the Guadalajara Metropolitan area in Jalisco (Mexico). It competes in the Liga MX, the top division of Mexican football. The club was founded in 1906. The Estadio Akron serves as their home ground.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup™, marketed as the FIFA World Cup 26, will be the 23rd FIFA World Cup™, the quadrennial international Men’s soccer championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. The tournament will take place from June 11th-July 19th, 2026. It will be jointly hosted by 16 Cities in three North American countries. The main host country of the soccer spectacle is the United States while Canada and Mexico will be the auxiliary hosts. The tournament will be the first to be hosted by three nations.

‘chivasdecorazon.com.mx’ further stated that starting this season the fans will already be able to see a new-look Estadio Akron as several upgrades to the facility will become visible when they come to attend the ‘Fortaleza Rojiblanca’ fixtures. The facility will boast a cutting-edge pitch apart from boasting avant-garde offerings. The visual experience will be out-of-the-world as the giant screens which will sit on both end of the pitch will come fitted with high-tech light emitting diode (LED) technology lending radiance to the arena and the areas skirting it. Additionally, the main atrium, the Boxes, the bathrooms, and many other spaces will be renovated.

Acoustic teeth will be lent to the Estadio Akron so that the guests can enjoy an immersive experience.

Keeping the upcoming FIFA extravaganza in mind temporary hospitality areas will come up in the Akron Premier and the Coca-Cola Lounge Zones which will feature immersive spaces with clear sightlines of the field, gustatory delight for the fans and private restrooms. The design of the venue will take a leaf out of Guadalajara folklore book. The visitors will be able to relish premium services and offerings before, during and after each match.

A new sensory room will also come up – a space to be designed for the neurodivergent fans with anxiety issues. This space will provide them a calm and soothing environment so that they can enjoy the pitch action. The sensory room will be the first in a venue in Mexico and this goes on to establish the fact that the ‘Chivas’ are committed to diversity and inclusion.

New signage will come up to provide the fans with clear information and directions of the venue as a whole as well as the emergency ingress and egress points.

The top-flight will make no compromise when it comes to the sustainability quotient and in this regard the traditional lights are being replaced by low-energy LED lights as well as stadium grow lighting (SGL) technology is being deployed for sustainable maintenance of the pitch.

The stadium grow lighting (SGL) technology utilizes the specialized lighting systems to supplement natural sunlight and promote healthy grass growth on the sports pitches.

The ‘Chivas’ are totally refurbishing the Estadio Akron not just for the forthcoming World Cup but the overall objective is to provide an enriching experience to the spectators which will leave a lasting impression on their minds.
