The Taichung City Government recently announced the 30,000+ seat domed stadium project. It is expected to be the biggest indoor multifunctional venue in Central-Southern Taiwan. The ‘Super Dome’ is likely to go into operation in 2030.

‘WORLD BASEBALL SOFTBALL CONFEDERATION’ stated that the Taichung City in Taiwan, recognized as a ‘World Baseball City’ by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) in 2013, will add one more major baseball attraction as the City announced the kick-off of a project for a 30,000+ seat domed stadium recently.

Pully (Switzerland)-based the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) is the international governing body for the sports of baseball, softball (a bat-and-ball sport, similar to baseball, but played with a larger ball and on a smaller field), Baseball5 (a simplified variation of baseball and softball), and Beep baseball (played by people who are visually impaired using a ball that beeps). It was established in 2013 by the merger of the International Baseball Federation and the International Softball Federation.

Maintained Lu Shiow-yen, Mayor of Taichung, “The City will work with the private sector to give fruition to a swanky multifunctional baseball stadium high on the safety and security quotient and will bolster Taichung’s sports industry. Unlike the previous projects this will be a privately-initiated project. The entities interested in the project will have to conduct a feasibility study and draw out an investment plan on their own and the final authority to review and approve the plans will be the City.”

Stated Shih-Chou Liu, Taichung City Councilor, “Once the domed stadium project is up and running it will help the tourism and hospitality industry in the nearby vicinity to flourish.”

‘WORLD BASEBALL SOFTBALL CONFEDERATION’ further stated that the Government wants to draw on the success of the 40,000-capacity Taipei Dome in Xinyl, Taipei, Taiwan, which has hosted more than 70 baseball games while attracting more than 1.4 million fans and generating a revenue of over NTD 4.73 billion ($157.8m) since its inauguration in December 2023.
