Luigi Ferraris Stadium total restyling for EURO 2032

The total redevelopment of the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa, Italy, has been included among the strategic national projects in the country.

‘GENOVATODAY’ stated that the above was announced by Edoardo Rixi, Deputy Minister of Transport. He said that the initiative was being taken keeping in mind the EURO 2032 which will be held in Italy and Türkiye.

The 33,205-seat Luigi Ferraris Stadium, also known as the Marassi from the name of the neighborhood where it is located, is a multiuse stadium in Genoa, Italy. It serves as the residence of the Serie A team Genoa CFC and the Serie B team UC Sampdoria.

The 2032 Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) European Football Championship, commonly referred to as UEFA EURO 2032 or simply EURO 2032, will be the 19^th UEFA European Championship, the quadrennial international football championship organized by the UEFA for the senior Men’s national teams of its member associations. Italy and Türkiye will host the tournament which is expected to take place between June and July 2032.

Crucial Step

Remarked Rixi, “According priority to totally upgrade the Luigi Ferraris Stadium will facilitate the city of Genoa to host UEFA EURO 2032. The Ministries of Infrastructure and Transport, Economy and Sport have all agreed to restyle the venue at par with the top European football clubs’ chic stadia. The Luigi Ferraris Stadium is a storied structure and with support from the Government the facility as well as the city of Genoa will boast unrivaled infrastructure.

Redevelopment Project Deets

‘GENOVATODAY’ further stated that the redevelopment project was officially presented on April 8^th to a committee of the Genoa City Council in the presence of the Mayor of Genoa Silvia Salis and Architect Hembert Penaranda of Officina Architetti.

Once the facility is restyled it will boast circa 31,000 seats with reduced capacity for safety reasons and around €100 million in private investment will be bankrolled by the Serie A team Genoa CFC and the Serie B team UC Sampdoria.

The revamped arena will sit over 10,000 square meters and will feature commercial spaces. A 99-year concession is being considered with the first 50 years to be rent-free in exchange for the investment. The City Council has ruled out setting up supermarkets. Merchandise stores, museums (among which a city football museum is being considered), sports shops, and sports-related medical centers will come up.
