International sports practice with their people-centric designs, AFL Architects, has made available the final renders for a 22Ha training complex in China. It is Dalian Yifang FC’s new football training complex.

The design has been created to serve dual purpose – to create a facility which will further the club’s ambitions to progress in the Chinese Super League, and to address the current lack of continuity in the talent pipeline.

This is AFL Architects fourth project in the country the price tag of which stands at 2-billion-yuan. The design practice bagged the project following an international architectural competition. Client Dalian Wanda Group selected the winning design.

Construction work of the training complex is underway. Once completed, it will enjoy the tag of being of one of the world’s top training facilities. It will boast a total of 600 coaches and athletes and will be able to cater to the requirements of 18 teams. The master plan envisages combining 23 training pitches with a 5,000-seat competition stand and separate community facilities.

The buildings of the training complex are outstanding comprising two full-size indoor pitches, teaching, rehabilitation, conference and other supporting facilities for the first team, reserves, and academy teams. Apart from serving the needs of professional football clubs, it will also serve as a venue for training and holding competitions for primary and middle school students.

Curving, undulating facades adorned with ribbons of stone, glazing and bronze panels are all common to the five buildings and complement each other. It lends a dynamic, streamlined look to the buildings.

The accommodation zones of the buildings are represented by the ribbons. The training areas are at the pitch level, and the bedrooms and private areas above.

Major spaces within buildings face the pitches to give a very healthy ambience to the players and keep them motivated. The architectural design is such that it keeps the players engaged. Green roofs and below ground water storage bear testimony to the green credentials of the development.

Phil Osborne, Director, AFL Architects, commented, “Dalian is a renowned footballing town in China, so designing the winning concept for this major development is a significant achievement for the team. We are proud to have been given this opportunity to envision new training grounds for both international and home-grown talent.”
