The Serie A club A.S. Roma will present a study for the construction of a stadium in the Pietralata district of Rome, Italy.

The A.S. Roma is a professional football club based in Rome, Italy. Founded by a merger in 1927, Roma has participated in the top-tier of Italian football (Serie A) for all of its existence except for the 1951-1952 seasons.

The Stadio Olimpico is the largest sports facility in Rome, Italy, seating over 70,000 spectators. It is located within the Foro Italico sports complex, North of the City. The structure is owned by the Italian National Olympic Committee and it is used primarily for association football.

Stadio della Roma is the temporary name for Serie A team A.S. Roma’s planned stadium in the Tor di Valle neighborhood of Rome.

The site chosen for the new arena is Pietralata in Rome (Italy), right behind the Tiburtina Station and is at a shouting distance from the Sandro Pertini Hospital. It is an area owned by the City and not subject to any kind of legal constraints.

Earlier, in March 2021, the club owner Friedkin had dropped the ambitious Tor de Valle project plan like a hot potato saying it was dogged by too much of “red tapism and political interferences”.

‘romapress’ stated that the capital club released an update regarding the construction of Stadio della Roma with the following official statement on their website:

“Following a series of joint meetings between the offices of the Capitoline administration and the technicians of A.S. Roma S.p.A. held in recent months, Roma Capitale positively acknowledges the willingness on the part of the ‘Giallorossi’ club to present to the Campidoglio in the coming weeks a feasibility study for the construction of a stadium on a municipal area in the Pietralata district.”

The statement added, “The initial urbanistic examination carried out in the area identified by A.S. Roma did not highlight any obstacles to the presentation of the aforementioned project, which will be carefully evaluated by Roma Capitale (a body of members identified among associations representing economic operators), according to the administrative process governed by the so-called stadium law (Article 1, Paragraph 304, Law 147/2013). A.S. Roma expresses great satisfaction for the collaborative environment that characterized the meetings with the municipal offices.”

‘romapress’ further stated that the statement added, “Roma Capitale and A.S. Roma share that the new stadium must represent a driver for the sustainable redevelopment of the Pietralata district without urban aggravation and, more generally, for the development of the Capital.”
