The LaLiga team FC Barcelona will clash against their peer team Athletic Club at the former’s home ground – the Spotify Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain – on November 22nd.

‘fcbarcelona.com’ stated that the above decision comes after obtaining the first occupancy license corresponding to Phase 1B which allows increasing the capacity up to 45,401 spectators. This authorization includes the entire Lateral area and adds to the license already granted for Phase 1A which covers the Tribune and the South Goal.

The above match will also mark the FC Barcelona returning to their home after two years since the Spotify Camp Nou is undergoing total transformation.

The Camp Nou, officially Spotify Camp Nou for sponsorship reasons, and often referred to in English as the Nou Camp, is a stadium in Barcelona (Spain) and the home of the LaLiga club FC Barcelona since its opening in 1957. It is currently undergoing renovation and with a planned increased seating capacity of 105, 000 it will be the largest stadium in terms of seating capacity in Spain and Europe and the second largest association football and the fifth largest overall stadium in the world.

fcbarcelona.com’ further stated that the club continues working on Phase 1C to guarantee the resumption of activity in the North Goal gathering all operational, security and comfort conditions for the members and the fans.

Regarding the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League the club is working jointly with the UEFA to be able to play the match against the Bundesliga team Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany) at the Spotify Camp Nou since the necessary requirements are met although confirmation is still awaited.

In this context, the return to Spotify Camp Nou is based on obtaining the corresponding authorizations for Phases 1A and 1B and the novelties and improvements they bring:

Capacity and Accessibility:

  • New authorized capacity of 45,401 attendees;
  • One hundred and twenty-nine (129) positions designated for people with reduced mobility; and
  • New comfort and adaptation spaces for the public.

Sports Infrastructure:

  • New players’ tunnel; and
  • New dressing rooms for the first team and the visiting team.

Security and Evacuation:

  • Improvements in comfort and safety for the public: More entrances, more evacuation routes and more handrails; and
  • New sprinkler and automatic extinguishing system.

Technology and Operations:

  • Access systems with gates and integrated ticketing, compatible with event days and vehicular traffic associated with ongoing works.

With all these improvements and with the occupancy license for Phases 1A and 1B already granted, FC Barcelona celebrates being able to compete again at its stadium and continue advancing in the comprehensive transformation project of the new Spotify Camp Nou.

Nyon (Switzerland)-based the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is one of six continental bodies of governance in association football. It governs football, futsal and beach football in Europe and the transcontinental countries of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Kazakhstan as well as the West Asian countries of Cyprus, Armenia and Israel. The UEFA consists of 55 national association members. Since 2022, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the FIFA and the UEFA has suspended all Russian national teams and clubs from any FIFA and UEFA competitions.
