Brisbane’s (Australia) Suncorp Stadium will undergo its largest upgrade in more than 20 years ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The design work has commenced with construction expected to begin later this year.

LED Wraparound

‘newsreel.com.au’ stated that the facelift of the Suncorp Stadium includes an Australian-first wraparound light emitting diode (LED) video screen, new terrace viewing platforms and entertainment zones.

There will also be new external screens to boost activation around the stadium.

The 52,500-seat Brisbane Stadium (Lang Park), currently known as the Suncorp Stadium for sponsorship reasons, is a multipurpose stadium in the suburb of Milton, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

The 2032 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXV Olympiad and also known as the Brisbane 2032, is a planned international multisport event scheduled to take place from July 23rd-August 8th, 2032 in Brisbane, Australia, with venues across the various regions of Queensland.

The 2032 Summer Paralympics, officially branded as Brisbane 2032, will be the 19th edition of the international multisport parasports event. Scheduled to take place in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, from August 24th-September 5th, 2032, the Games will be held immediately following the 2032 Summer Olympics.

Upgrades Inspiration

‘newsreel.com.au’ further stated that the Queensland Premier David Crisafulli said the program of work would boost capacity and enhance experiences for the fans.

The upgrades took inspiration from fan experiences at some of the world’s best stadiums.

Commented Crisafulli, “The Suncorp Stadium belongs to the Queenslanders and we’re giving it the love it deserves so it’s up to scratch for a growing State.”

The enhanced activation includes mesh screens the size of two tennis courts at both ends of the stadium.

The new terraced areas behind the goals at both the Northern and the Southern ends of the Suncorp Stadium will have standing and seating zones.

Legacy Fund

The work will be delivered through the Queensland Government’s Legacy Fund.

The Queensland Government’s Games Legacy Fund is a specialized financial initiative launched to support the major stadium upgrades and grassroots sporting infrastructure across Queensland. It is designed to ensure lasting benefits from the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games reach the communities Statewide.

Events Capital

The Minister for Tourism Andrew Powell said the upgrades reflected the Government’s desire to deliver major events – “We want Queensland to be the events capital of Australia and the home of Australian sport and the Suncorp Stadium plays a central role in our major events calendar. These upgrades will ensure it remains a fortress for our home teams and a magnet for some of the biggest events on the planet.”

‘Spiritual Home’

The National Rugby League (NRL) team Brisbane Broncos head honcho Dave Donaghy welcomed the investment – “The Suncorp Stadium has been our spiritual home since our beginning and we welcome this announcement by the Premier. I’m excited about what this project will deliver for the Broncos members, the fans and, of course, our athletes.”

Sydney (Australia)-based the National Rugby League (also known as the NRL Telstra Premiership for sponsorship reasons) is a professional rugby league competition in Oceania which is currently contested by 17 teams from New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory, and New Zealand.
