Hungarian arena sets LED records Image: AV Interactive

A new arena in Hungary is to house a 216qm LED centerhung CUBE scoreboard that will be the largest in the country and an 800 sqm LED video wall that is thought to be the largest in Central Europe.

The ‘AV Interactive’ stated that the screens form part of an LED video wall and digital signage project undertaken by the Visual Europe Group at the Budapest Multifunctional Sports and Event Hall in Nepliget, Hungary.

The new sports hall will have a capacity of 22,000 seats, making it eligible to host the 2022 European Men’s Handball Championship. Construction of the hall began in November 2019, with a design that makes it suitable for all kinds of indoor sports from basketball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, skating, martial arts, weightlifting, fencing, and gymnastics to horse riding and even motor racing. Advanced technical solutions will also provide the opportunity to put on events such as conferences, large concerts and shows, and exhibitions.

Szabolcs Botond, CEO of Visual Europe Group, commented, “Our entire technical team is working on the project, which took almost two years to prepare. Our goal was to make an unusual, modern and innovative LED wall system that would serve the building. Hungary’s largest CUBE scoreboard will be placed in the middle of the arena. The 800 square-meter LED wall on the facade is the largest such surface in the region.”

The ‘AV Interactive’ further stated that the biggest challenge of the project was to create the CUBE scoreboard in the arena.

Remarked József Hódi, Chief Operating Officer of the Visual Europe project, “Hungary’s largest 12-ton CUBE scoreboard consists of exactly 216 sq mtrs and 14 million pixels. Each side has a video wall with rounded corners. Depending on the event, the position can be changed, as it can be moved up and down freely. The impressive size of the building itself and the fact that some LED systems had to be installed on a sloping wall was challenging.”

The CUBE LED wall has already been completed, and additional systems, including the LED wall on the façade and the perimeters, are being installed now.
