China CAMC Engineering landed a contract worth USD289 million to build the main competition and service facilities for the 2025 Asian Youth Games in Uzbekistan.

‘Yicai Global’ stated that Uzbekistan’s Olympic City project includes the games’ main stadium, competition venues, dormitory buildings, and other related facilities, the Beijing-based engineering contractor announced recently.

China-based construction engineering company – China CAMC Engineering Company Limited (CAMC) – a subsidiary of China National Machinery Industry Corporation, is a construction company that offers engineering, procurement and construction services. The company designs and constructs shipyard, turnkey project in pulp plant, agricultural equipment industrial park, and rehabilitation and rural roads.

The Asian Youth Games, also known as AYG, is a multisport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. The Games have been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The Games are described as the second largest multisport event after the Asian Games. The creation of the Asian Youth Games is part of Singapore’s bid to host the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics. It was intended to show Singapore’s organizational capabilities and infrastructure. In its history, two nations have hosted the Asian Youth Games. Forty-five nations have participated in the Games.

The last Games were held in Nanjing, China from August 16th to August 24th, 2013, and the next games will be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in 2025.

The City of Tashkent will host the 2025 Asian Youth Games, held once every four years, the Olympic Council of Asia informed in early May this year.

The investment and construction of the Olympic City project in Uzbekistan will help consolidate CAMCE’s expertise in civil construction, such as comprehensive large-scale sports venues, and expand the firm’s overseas market share, CAMCE noted.

‘Yicai Global’ further stated that the company did not disclose any further details, such as the construction schedule, but added that it still needs to further discuss with the project owner on the commercial contract terms, financing mechanisms and other specifics.

Olympic City Project

‘CAMCE’ stated that the groundbreaking ceremony was held recently of the Uzbekistan Olympic City project in the capital Tashkent. The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, graced the sod turning ceremony and addressed the gathering. Li Haixin, General Manager of CAMC Engineering Company Limited, was also present on the occasion on behalf of the company.

The project will cover an area of about 100.6 hectares, with a construction area of about 120,000 square meters, including five main sports venues, including a stadium, a swimming pool, a velodrome, a ball multipurpose hall, as well as outdoor football, basketball, tennis, Extreme Sports (adventure sports), and beach volleyball venues.

‘CAMCE’ further stated that the above project is also the first major cooperation project between China and Uzbekistan after the successful convening of the Council of Heads of State.

Speaking on the occasion, President Mirziyoyev informed that Uzbekistan is carrying out large-scale sports popularization programs – “In the past five years, the country has injected a lot of money to provide better training facilities to athletes, and our athletes putting up a brilliant show in international events has put a lot of global focus on Uzbekistan. Consequently, the Fourth Asian Youth Games and Asian Youth Paralympic Games to be held in Tashkent in 2025 will be of international repute and stature and the biggest sporting extravaganza to be held in Uzbekistan. The ambitious Olympic City project will create conducive conditions for holding the sporting extravaganza in the country.”
