Club Brugge venue dreams finally get wings!

It seems Lady Luck has finally smiled on the Belgian professional football club – Club Brugge (Belgium) – as it recently received the environmental nod for the construction of a new football stadium.

‘reddit’ stated that the breakthrough has been achieved after a 15-year protracted legal battle to build a new stadium with a capacity to accommodate 40,000 fans.

The Club Brugge is a Belgian professional football club based in Bruges, Belgium. It was founded in 1891 and its home ground is the Jan Breydel Stadium which has a capacity to hold 29,062 spectators. It plays in the Belgian Pro League, the top league competition for the association football clubs in Belgium.

The 29,042-capacity Jan Breydel Stadium is a multipurpose stadium in Sint-Andries, Bruges, Belgium. The City-owned stadium is the home stadium of the two top-flight association football clubs, Club Brugge and Cercle Brugge. It is used mainly for football matches, which cost between €5 and €60/seat/match. The stadium was built in 1975.

‘reddit’ further stated that the Flemish Government has given the go-ahead in response to an application by the club for tearing down its existing home – the Jan Breydel Stadium – and for the construction of a chic football stadium boasting retail spaces, parking facilities and a neighborhood park.

The permission to build the new arena has been granted but at the same time it has been ensured that the new venue would work towards the interests of the community on which the venue would sit.

Observed Flemish Environment Minister Zuhal Demir, “The Jan Breydel Stadium no longer meets the current standards of a modern football stadium and a new futuristic arena is the need of the hour for Club Brugge. The local Government has played a key role in getting the environmental clearance for the venue project.”

The Club Brugge sent out a statement which read, “The Club Brugge is pleased to have received the environmental permit for building the new facility as our present home ground no longer meets the requirements of hosting football showcases. The sustainability factor will be accorded the topmost priority while building the new venue and steps will be initiated to ensure that there is no noise pollution and the neighborhood is not disturbed due to the stadium activities.”

The new venue will seek to provide a more intimate experience and the design of the arena will be “jaw-dropping” with the exterior of the venue to be draped in a special type of highly resistant perforated textile covering. The venue will also enjoy a 12,500-stand and a page has been taken out from the Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund’s residence – the 81,365-capacity Signal Iduna Park’s (Dortmund, Germany) famous ‘Yellow Wall’.

Finally, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel for Club Brugge who spent 15 distraught years wondering if their venue dreams would ever come to fruition!
