Constellation to power New Nissan Stadium Image: MANICA and New Nissan Stadium

Constellation, the largest producer of clean energy in the United States and a leading supplier of energy products and services, announced recently a long-term agreement to serve as the preferred energy source of the New Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee (US), and the National Football League (NFL) team Tennessee Titans.

‘Constellation’ further stated that Constellation will operate a state-of-the-art, onsite energy plant at the team’s Nissan Stadium that is designed to deliver unmatched reliability, fan comfort and energy efficiency – ensuring that the stadium performs at the highest level while supporting Nashville’s economic growth.

The Constellation Energy Corporation, a Fortune 200 company headquartered in Baltimore, is the largest privates sector power producer in the world and the United States largest producer of clean and reliable energy. With 55 gigawatts of capacity from nuclear, natural gas, geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar facilities its fleet has the generating capacity to power the equivalent of 27 million homes providing about 10 percent of the nation’s clean energy and delivering around-the-clock reliability needed to power America’s growing economy.

Constellation is also the largest nuclear energy company in the US and a leading competitive retail supplier serving approximately 2.5 million customers’ accounts nationwide including three-fourths of the Fortune 100. The firm is committed to investing in innovation and new technologies to drive the transition to a reliable, sustainable and secure energy future.

Under a 20-year energy services agreement Constellation will maintain the energy system responsible for supplying heating and cooling to the 2.1 million square foot, 60,000-capacity stadium once it opens in 2027.

The 60,000-capacity New Nissan Stadium is an indoor multipurpose stadium under construction in Nashville, Tennessee (US). Scheduled to open in the Summer of 2027 it is to replace the Nissan Stadium as the home venue of the National Football League (NFL) team Tennessee Titans.

The Tennessee Titans are a professional American football team based in Nashville, Tennessee (US). The Titans compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the American Football Conference South Division.

The 69,143-capacity Nissan Stadium is a multipurpose stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. Owned by the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and the Davidson County it is primarily used for football and is the home field of the National Football League (NFL) team Tennessee Titans.

‘Constellation’ quoted Jim McHugh, Senior Executive Vice- President and Chief Commercial Officer, Constellation, as stating, “We work closely with our customers to provide customized solutions that meet their energy and sustainability objectives and the launch of this exciting collaboration with the Titans is a prime example of that commitment in action. “As the Titans strive to offer an optimal experience for the millions of fans and guests annually we’re eager to do our part to provide a comfortable indoor environment in an efficient and resilient way.”

Through the New Nissan Stadium project and across all the team operations the Titans are committed to creating a sustainable future, reducing the environmental impact and amplifying the impactful solutions. Constellation’s high-efficiency energy system is designed to improve the overall energy efficiency by up to 20 percent.

Commented Kellen DeCoursey, Titans Project Executive, Tennessee Titans, “What stood out to us about Constellation is their unwavering commitment to ensuring every guest enjoys a comfortable, memorable experience. We are excited to have a partner like Constellation to ensure the stadium performs reliably and efficiently.”

Constellation is working with the stadium’s engineering team to incorporate the leading energy efficiency measures and the other best practices into the plant’s design. Once the facility is constructed Constellation will provide more than 8,600 tons of chilled water capacity for cooling and will carry more than 60.7 million British Thermal Unit (BTU) per hour of demand for heating, enough to supply clean air throughout the stadium. A portion of the water utilized by the plant will be reclaimed rainwater from the stadium’s innovative cistern system.

The onsite plant will feature the multiple chillers and boilers, the backup cooling and extra pumps and the cooling tower capacity to set up intentionally redundant functions on days of extreme heat, full-capacity events and back-to-back events. The system provides even temperatures across the seating bowls, the clubs, the suites, and the concourses in all seasons even when the doors are opening and closing thousands of times per event.

Constellation already has a strong familiarity with both the Nashville community and the Tennessee Titans. Since 2003, Constellation has operated the Metro Nashville’s high-performing District Energy System which provides heating and cooling services to more than 40 buildings in Nashville’s downtown corridor including cooling for the current Nissan Stadium.

Under Constellation’s management the system has operated at more than 99 percent reliability since it first came online. Constellation’s 19 Nashville-based employees have served an average tenure of 15 years bringing the deep local expertise, the community commitment and reliability to the New Nissan Stadium development.
