Eintracht Frankfurt – a German sports club – enjoys the label of being the first Bundesliga club to become active in the ‘Internet of Things’ sector with its own structure.

Recently, Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG and the city of Frankfurt am Main arrived at a consensus on the future use of the Commerzbank Arena in Germany. The agreement will continue till June 30, 2035.

Eintracht Frankfurt is also coming up with a digital center under the name ‘Arena of IoT’ in tune with partners from industry and research. Under ‘Arena of IoT’, digital industrial models from the fields of smart building, facility management, energy management, logistics and mobility will be developed for use in the market.

The term “IoT” (Internet of Things) refers to the increasing networking between intelligent objects both internally and externally with the Internet. It facilitates transferring data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.

The industrial sector’s main objective is to connect machines and systems in such a manner so that the entire industrial processes can be automated.

Eintracht Frankfurt has armed the digital center ‘Arena of IoT’ with its own project, space and personnel resources. It is the first and currently the only football Bundesliga club that runs in the area of IoT with its own structure.

Hessian Minister for Digital Strategy and Development, Prof. Dr med Kristina Sinemus is the backer for the digital center.

Eintracht board member Axel Hellmann commented on the creation of the ‘Arena of IoT’, “We are happy to announce that after the agreement with the city about the use of the stadium we are opening the first chapter on the digitization of the stadium and at the same time contributing to the strengthening of the stadium digital locations in Hessen.”

Sinemus further stated, “The stadium is the ideal place to test future-proof digital industrial models for use in the market. At no other place in Hesse do so many people come together in a limited space at a certain time in games of concord or at concerts as in the Commerzbank-Arena in regular accumulation. Industrial digital applications that work in such an environment will also work at all transport hubs if bandwidth is adequate.”
